Bishop Kelly girls claim 2010 4A soccer championship

I’d like to start off by congratulating the three teams that won state titles in soccer this past week and because the above photo, courtesy of Eric Plummer (Bonner County Daily Bee, Sandpoint), needs to be seen. The fall colors in the background are eye-catching, but the looks on the faces of Bishop Kelly players after they won the 4A state championship game against Sandpoint are just as captivating. The Boise girls defended their 5A championship and the Borah boys won their first. Now, on to the athletes of the week.

Local 2010 state cross country qualifiers

Here is a list of the teams and additional individuals qualified for the state cross country meets in Soda Springs on Saturday, Oct. 30. The 5A District Three meet is at 4:10 p.m. Friday at Eagle Island State Park.

Local 2010 state volleyball tournament qualifiers

Here is a list of the teams that have qualified for the state volleyball tournaments, which begin Friday, Oct. 29. More likely to come after Saturday's play-in games. Look for complete state tournament schedules here and in Sunday's Idaho Statesman.

Boise grad Kelsie Clegg sets VCU volleyball blocks record

Virginia Commonwealth University senior Kelsie Clegg, a 2007 Boise High graduate, recently made history.

She set the Rams' career blocks record while leading the team to a 3-1 victory against James Madison Friday night and Monday was named Colonial Athletic Association defensive player of the week.
