Eagle High's Liz Brandon was named Idaho's 2008-09 Gatorade girls track and field athlete of the year Thursday, becoming the first athlete from her school chosen for the honor.

Mountain Home High's Nickayla Skinner was named Idaho's 2008-09 Gatorade softball player of the year Thursday, becoming the first player from her school chosen for the honor.

David Goodwin has been hired to replace Annie Schmidt as Timberline High softball coach, according to athletic director Tol Gropp.

Goodwin, an assistant of Schmidt’s for the past five seasons, also is the offensive coordinator for the football team and coached sophomore girls basketball the past two seasons. He teaches science at Timberline.
