Cesar Montes, McCall-Donnelly: The Vandals pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season with their 24-22 win over defending 2A state champion and current state media No. 1 Grangeville. Montes, a senior, remained perfect on PATs and also added a 55-yard field goal in the win. Montes' 55-yard field goal would be an overall state record had it been kicked during the state playoffs.

An MRI taken Wednesday confirmed that Fruitland High senior Alec Dhaenens has a torn ACL in his left knee.
Dhaenens, a starting tight end and linebacker, will have surgery soon and be out for nine months, Fruitland coach Bruce Schlaich said.
The injury occurred last Saturday when Dhaenens caught a pass against Casa Roble (Calif.) and then made a cut to avoid a defender.

Fruitland head football coach Bruce Schlaich needed a little assistance to even make the trip to Northern California. His Grizzlies then received a little more help late in the fourth quarter to seal a 29-22 victory Saturday against Casa Roble in El Dorado Hill, Calif.
Casa Roble was called for two straight unsportsmanlike conduct calls with less than two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, giving the Grizzlies command of the ball and a hard fought victory.
