Friday's matchup featuring Mountain View and Meridian was leading high school football Game of the Week voting most of the week, but Canyon County football fans mobilized late and provided the Nampa-Skyview matchup 62 percent of the votes in our online poll.

9:45 p.m. — Mountain View 6, Centennial 0: Mountain View finally beat Centennial in its ninth try since opening its doors in 2003. The eight-game losing streak included five regular-season game and two in the postseason.

Not surprisingly, fans voted this week's matchup featuring Meridian (1-0) at Eagle (1-0) at 7 p.m. Friday as the Statesman's Game of the Week.

The game is the only Friday matchup featuring two 5A teams without a loss. Borah (1-0) and Capital (1-0) play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bronco Stadium.

Big week for Boise public school football teams

For the first time in four years and the second time since Timberline opened its doors in 1998, three of Boise's four public high school football teams won season openers. Capital topped Boise 14-0, Borah clobbered Columbia 41-12 and Timberline dismantled Kuna 48-27.
