Bishop Kelly High standout named Gatorade Idaho cross country runner of year

Bishop Kelly High senior Emily Nist was recognized as the 2011-12 Gatorade Idaho Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year on Thursday.

The 5-foot-6 senior won her third individual 4A state championship last fall in a time of 18 minutes, 34.98 seconds, helping the Knights secure their third straight team championship.

Because of construction scheduled to begin this spring at Bronco Stadium, the 2012 high school state track and field meet has been moved to five different locations in the Treasure Valley.

Dominic Hulsey, Liberty Charter: The 6-foot-6 junior averaged 27 points per game in two contests last week. In a 56-46 victory over Cascade on Jan. 3, Hulsey contributed 32 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. He then added 22 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and one blocked shot in just 14 minutes of play in a 59-21 win over Riverstone International on Jan. 6 to help Liberty Charter improve to 10-1 overall.

Eagle High's Mangum dubbed 'ultimate team guy' during national TV broadcast

Eagle High senior quarterback Tanner Mangum was the third quarterback to take the field for the white team in Thursday's Under Armour High School All-America Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder entered the game with 5 minutes, 45 seconds to play in the second quarter. Mangum went 1-for-3 in his first series, completing a 7-yard pass with one interception.

Eagle High kicker commits to Idaho

Eagle High's Jace Johnson gave a verbal commitment Thursday to play football for the University of Idaho.

The 6-foot, 195-pound senior wrapped up his high school career with a second consecutive appearance on the All-Idaho first team as a kicker.

Johnson made 56-of-57 point-after tries and 7-of-9 field goals — including a long of 39 yards — for the runner-up Mustangs. Eighty-eight percent of Johnson's kickoffs went for touchbacks.
