BASEBALL
Boyd Lainhart, Meridian: The fifth-seeded Warriors earned the first upset of the 5A District Three Tournament with a 10-9 victory against No. 4 Capital on May 5. Lainhart, a senior first baseman, went 3-for-4 from the plate with two doubles and an RBI.

The Rocky Mountain High baseball team, which enters the upcoming 5A District Three Tournament as the No. 1 seed, moved to No. 9 in the Perfect Game's Northwest Regional rankings.

Here are the District Three Tournament pairings for baseball and softball. The 2A Western Idaho Conference schools are still wrapping up the regular season, so those pairings are to be determined. I have also included information on district golf.

The Eagle High boys golf team edged Boise by five strokes and the Rocky Mountain girls held off Bishop Kelly to claim the Eagle Invitational team championships Tuesday at BanBury Golf Club.

Tanner Lupton, Skyview: The pitcher threw a no-hitter in an 11-1, five-inning victory over Columbia last week. Lupton struck out 10 of the 20 batters he faced and also went 3-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBIs as the Hawks held on to the No. 2 spot in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference standings.

Boise High Athletic Director Tracy Leinen told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday that the Braves will host the inaugural football game at Dona Larsen Park this fall.
Boise will host Vallivue at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31. Plans also are in the works for a special commemorative presentation before the start of the game.

Bowen Ogata, Bishop Kelly: The sophomore pitched two complete games for the Knights to improve his record to 7-0. Ogata struck out 17 while allowing one run and seven hits in a 4-1 win over Middleton and a 2-0 shutout of Columbia. From the plate, Ogata went 7-for-11 with two doubles and four RBIs, helping the Knights improve to 16-1 overall and 12-0 in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference.

Bishop Kelly senior Emily Nist became just the third Idaho high school female to run the 1,600 meters in less than 5 minutes.
Nist won the 1,600 at Saturday's Bandanna Invitational in 4 minutes, 58.79 seconds.
