I was born and raised in Boise. At 18 I spent a few months in Israel. I did some volunteer work in Europe at different refugee camps which lead to a summer stint teaching English in China. I had a great experience and after completing my BA (in communication) at Boise State went back to China. I studied Mandarin for a year in Sichuan. I met my wife the first week I was there. I stayed in Sichuan for a full three years. The big earthquake back in May destroyed a lot of the places where I lived. My wife is actually from the hardest hit area. I taught English and Western culture/history at a key middle school and worked as the academic director at a language training academy in Chengdu. We went throught the nightmarish LEGAL immigration process for my wife. I've been back for about 3 and a half years. Currently I'm trying to finish up an engineering degree. We just had our first child in March of 2008. I started posting here when I noticed a lot of negative and uninformed comments regarding China in the lead up to the Olympics. I consider myself very much an independent centrist. I'm from a relgious family but I'm pretty open minded about religion.
