Today I photographed the final mission for the Idaho Air National Guard 189th Airlift Squardron. When I noticed Leslie White and Georgeann Michell standing in the rain holding bottles of champagne – I knew the chance for a nice picture was good. It was just a matter of watching and waiting for the moment.

Statesman photographer Shawn Raecke was dispatched up to the Soldier Mountain Resort today outside of Fairfield after a fire ripped through the lodge and ski rental shop. He sent back these photos. For more photos, take a look at the photo gallery:

I just came back from Haiti, where I accompanied a medical mission team from Saint Alphonsus Hospital. (More stories to come in the Statesman at a later date.) Haiti is an overwhelming experience, where nearly everyone is hurting and hungry and needy.

After three night of shooting Steelheads games this week, I think I've settled on this angle as my favorite. I sit behind the glass behind the opposing goalie and you get a pretty good, ice-level view of the Steelheads attacking the net. Your photos are also more intimate and dramatic when you shoot down on the same level as the players.

Today was my first softball game of the season at the Idaho Sporting Goods Tournament hosted at Borah High School. For many of the schools traveling to Boise from less temperate Idaho climates, it was one of the few times the players have been able to play on the dirt this season.
