Do you miss your avatar?

When we moved our commenting system from Pluck to Disqus, the ability to have an avatar with your Statesman account went away.

We’ve heard from a handful of people who miss having an avatar — they consider it part of their “signature.”

Our friends at the Anchorage Daily News newspaper passed along a way for you to add an avatar to your Statesman account, using Gravatar. Gravatar is a web site that allows you to attach an avatar to any account on the Internet based on the e-mail address you use for accounts.

Read news stories on your iPhone

If you have an iPhone, you can now get the Idaho Statesman on your phone with our new app (which you can find here.)

You'll find everything from the latest news to our blogs to movie times and the weather. And it's free!

Once you download it, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

And if you don't have an iPhone, but still want to read our stories on your smart phone, go to m.idahostatesman.com

Are you a fan of high school sports?

The Statesman is your place for the latest news and information about high school sports no matter how you like to get your news.

We've made some changes to our main Varsity Extra page to make it easier to find what you are looking for - including Jesse Zentz' blog and our high school football stats. (Don't forget to remind your coaches to call us with game results!)

We love our photo galleries!

And we know readers do too. So we wanted to make it easier for you to find photo galleries on the homepage.

They are now located under the main story and photo. Four galleries will show at once, but you can click on the numbers in the blue bar to see additional galleries.

Check it out and let your friends know too! We're often at community events
- from Race for the Cure to Race to Robie Creek to Alive after Five - so you might find yourself and your friends in our galleries!

Should we stop allowing anonymous story comments?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my question. I must admit to becoming a bit tired of the negativity - would it really be that hard to share your point of view without attacking someone in the process?

I don't anticipate any immediate changes (sorry pimp2) except that we intend to block repeat offenders much more quickly in the past. The best thing readers can do to help improve your reading experience is to ignore the trolls. If you respond, you are giving them what they want - attention. And please, share your point of view without calling names.
