There's going to be a press event to build hype for this show, but I can’t wait for the official announcement to share the news: “Walking with Dinosaurs:
The Live Experience The Arena Spectacular," an awesome-looking tour, will lumber into the Idaho Center from Jan. 7-11, 2009.

The Boise River is a dynamite river to float in the fall because of all the colors, but don't get hung up on a log.
One paddler, Judi Steciak, reported Monday that those floating the Glenwood-to-Linder section should be aware of a downed tree blocking the entire south channel around Eagle Island, above the Eagle Road bridge. It's near the small weir marked on the river map in Ron Watter's guide to flatwater paddling.
She said the river bends to the right just below the tree.

Boise State senior Chris O'Neill will miss the rest of the season with a broken foot, coach Chris Petersen announced Monday.
O'Neill was injured in the Broncos' 38-3 victory against Louisiana Tech.
O'Neill is tied for second on the team with 10 catches through four games for No. 15 Boise State (4-0). O'Neill has two receiving touchdowns — tied for the team lead — and 131 yards, good for fourth on the team.
"Losing Chris, his leadership, all those things, is big for us," Petersen said.

Promoter Knitting Factory has released no ticket information about the Dec. 8 Nine Inch Nails concert at the Idaho Center. However, the band's Web site indicates the show will go on sale to the public on Oct. 24. (The pre-sale opportunity is "TBA.") When NIN played Nampa in 2006, tickets cost $29.50 and $39.50. I'd expect similar pricing.

Southern Miss is 2-3 this season despite having the Conference USA preseason offensive and defensive players of the year.
Those two have delivered, too — tailback Damion Fletcher is fourth in the nation with 142 yards per game and linebacker Gerald McRath is tied for seventh in tackles with 11 per game.
The Eagles have lost their past two games, against Marshall and UTEP, by a total of 10 points. They missed three field goals in the 40-37 double-overtime loss to UTEP — a game in which Fletcher rushed for a school-record 260 yards.

... as far as gas prices go.
And the past resides about five or so hours north of Boise.
I paid about $3.39 a gallon for gas in Moscow Sunday. It really great until I drove through Lewiston and spotted prices at about the $3.05 range.
I knew visiting my kid at college would stir up a lot of sentimental moments and fond memories. The trip exceeded expectations.

Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig and Democrat Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon came together last week to keep federal money flowing into rural schools and counties.
The two senators crossed the aisle in 2000 to craft the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, which offset lost timber receipts with federal money in 700 counties in 39 states. It also established collaborating committees that included many of the combatants in the timber wars of the 1980s in each county to approve spending on projects on national forests.

I paddled Payette Lake near McCall last week and it was pretty quiet.
Let's just say that several other paddlers and I has the place to ourselves. There were no powerboats or Jet Skis or crowds.
Fall is an ideal time of the year to paddle a canoe or touring kayak on places like Payette Lake, the upper reaches of Lake Cascade, around the coves on Lucky Peak Reservoir, Anderson Ranch Reservoir or even some of the upper reaches of Arrowrock Reservoir.
Sure, you might get into some rain or snow, but hey, that's part of high-country paddling.
