Kirby Moore's summer; Name the Score contest

When he arrived on campus, Boise State wide receiver Kirby Moore expected to play as a true freshman. Then came a fractured left foot, suffered during summer drills at the Caven-Williams Sports Complex on June 15.

“I was just running a route in the indoor and my foot got really swollen,” Moore said.

Two days later, he underwent surgery, which included putting a screw in the foot. The screw remains.

“Hopefully, it doesn’t rot,” Moore said Tuesday.

Boise State spokesman on Oregon incident: "Unfortunate and regrettable"

I know many of you are tired of fallout from “The Punch.” But many of you have also asked for Boise State’s response. Here is what the school’s spokesman wrote me in an e-mail about the incident after Boise State’s 19-8 victory against Oregon at Bronco Stadium:

Name the Score contest, more on Blount-Hout, ban some fans and cheap H-Bowl tickets

So much has been written and so much has been said about the incident that took place after Boise State’s 19-8 victory against Oregon that I’m sure fans are tired of hearing about it.

For those out of the country or without television service for the last week, Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount punched Boise State defensive end Byron Hout in the face after the game. Hout had, seconds earlier, tapped Blount on the shoulder pad to get his attention and said something to the Oregon player.

More fallout from Blount punch

Boise State coach Chris Petersen said he has addressed his team three times about Thursday’s post-game incident.

Following Boise State’s 19-8 victory against Oregon, Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount punched Boise State defensive end Byron Hout in the face. ESPN cameras caught the incident on and broadcast it to a national audience.

“Everything is a learning lesson and this is one of them,” Petersen said on his weekly WAC teleconference.

Oregon's Blount suspended for season

5:02 p.m. -- From Boise State coach Chris Petersen:

“The event that took place last night following our game between Byron and Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount was very unfortunate and we do not condone Byron’s action. There will be disciplinary consequences for Bryon as a result of the incident last night and they will be handled internally.”

Hout will not be suspended, Petersen said.

3:31 p.m. -- A little more clarification on Blount's status from an Oregon press release:

Pre-Game

The parking lot around Boise State was jumpin' when I arrived at 4:45 p.m. — a mere 3:30 before the game was slated to begin. Lots of blue and orange, but a smattering of Oregon green and yellow.

Eugene Register Guard columnist George Schroeder wrote a nice piece on Chris Petersen for SI.com.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to kickoff.

Boise State, Oregon coaches show respect

The buildup for tonight’s Boise State-Oregon showdown at Bronco Stadium has mostly focused on trash talking, revenge for late hits and the high stakes.

But somewhat lost in that noise has been a level of respect between the two programs.

Oregon's first-year coach Chip Kelly has been very complimentary when discussing the Broncos and refusing to make excuses for last year’s 37-32 Boise State win.

“They came in here and beat us. That’s the bottom line. We don’t make excuses,” said Kelly, who was the team's offensive coordinator last season.

Big deal for freshman snapper

Boise State true freshman walk-on Chris Roberson will be the Broncos’ long snapper in the season opener against Oregon.

He knows what a big deal that is.

“It’s going to be a huge atmosphere. It’s going to be a huge game. They’re saying it’s going to be a bowl game. It’s a big deal. It’s a big deal to a lot of people here in Boise. It’s going to be awesome,” Roberson said.
