Should LeGarrette Blount be reinstated?
Submitted by Brian Murphy on Fri, 10/02/2009 - 8:49am.UPDATE 12:12 p.m. — Kelly says there is a plan in place for Blount to return to the football team. He said he is not reinstating Blount at this time.
Blount has to pass some academic, behavioral and football ladders in order to be eligible to play. Kelly said Blount would not come back before the Stanford game on Nov. 7.
"It's not a football decision. It's a human being decision," Kelly said.
Kelly said he made the right decision on Sept. 4, when he opted to suspend Blount for the rest of the season.
Keys to Idaho's hot start; Name the Score contest
Submitted by Brian Murphy on Thu, 10/01/2009 - 2:13pm.While much of the focus around the college football world has been on Boise State, its No. 5 ranking and the possibilities for the remainder of the season, there is another story developing in North Idaho.
The Idaho Vandals are 3-1, their best start since opening the 1994 season with seven consecutive victories.
Idaho, under third-year coach Robb Akey, is doing a lot of little things right so far this year.
Check it out:
Idaho leads the WAC in rushing defense (102.0 yards per game).
Idaho is second in the WAC in turnover margin (plus-4).
Can Boise State play in the national championship game?
Submitted by Brian Murphy on Wed, 09/30/2009 - 3:59pm.The Idaho Statesman sports staff is tackling the pressing issue in Thursday’s editions. But we are hardly the only ones to be talking about the topic.
The topic has been written about in The New York Times, ESPN.com, SportsIllustrated.com, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Here’s the beginning of an Associated Press story by college football writer Andrew Bagnato:
The Boise State Broncos are breathing some rare BCS air.
The fifth-ranked Broncos have climbed higher and faster than any non-BCS team in the controversial system’s 12-year history.

Big weekend for non-BCS contenders; Name the Score contest
Submitted by Brian Murphy on Thu, 09/24/2009 - 2:29pm.This could be a big weekend for Boise State’s quest to reach the Bowl Championship Series.
The No. 8 Broncos are the highest-rated non-BCS conference team at the moment, but several other teams could pass them eventually.
That’s why this weekend is so important.
TCU (No. 15 in AP, No. 14 in coaches’ poll) plays at Clemson. A victory could give the Horned Frogs, who handed Boise State its only loss last season, a jump in the human polls and put them right on the Broncos’ heels. The computer polls are likely to look favorably on TCU as well.

1:30 p.m. — Boise State coach Chris Petersen said Monday that running back D.J. Harper is likely out for the season.

FINAL: Boise State 51, Fresno State 34

5:55 p.m. — Fresno State and Boise State will observe a moment of silence before Friday night's game in honor of former NCAA president Myles Brand. Brand died this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
At halftime, the Fresno State marching band will have a tribute for former Bulldogs defensive coordinator Dan Brown. Brown died in March after a long battle with brain cancer. Brown played and coached at Boise State. The initials "D.B." are painted on the field at Bulldog Stadium near each goal line.
Is Fresno State the Broncos biggest rival?
Submitted by Brian Murphy on Thu, 09/17/2009 - 10:27am.The Boise State football team departs for Fresno, Calif., later today. The Broncos will practice in Boise before departing.
I am writing about the rivalry (or lack there of) for Friday’s Bronco GameDay section.
Boise State has won seven of the eight meetings between the teams since joining the WAC in 2001. Despite the results, the Broncos clearly consider Fresno State one of their biggest rivals. The schools play for the Milk Can, a relatively new trophy.
“There’s just something about going down there that gets everyone excited,” defensive end Ryan Winterswyk said.
