Study: Series TV showing more gays, lesbians : comments

None here

Shows with gays always get turned off in my house. I watched ER for years and when they went gay I shut it off. Same with Grays Anatomy.

Shows with Gays

That is funny. I always shut off shows with ignorant bigots in my house.

Hoghappy, you can still see Archie Bunker..

Hoghappy, you can still "All in the Family" on TVLand.

"All in the Family"

This show was an intelligent commentary on America and the times. Walter's comment was just sad.

Do You Watch Snooze 7?

They are the official Larry Craig station.

Good Boy, Watcher!! You Exercized Your Choice!

!

hogpappy...

YOU'RE FULL OF CRA_!

Nice

At least you spelled "you're" correctly; I am impressed.

Gay or straight

What the hell does it matter?! The fact that all these crappy shows want to sell sex on tv to draw more viewers is the goal. To me they are perfectly capable of showing a great tv show without selling the sex part of it. I think House is a mighty fine show and frankly throwing the gay card in there really doesnt matter to me until they start showing gay sexual encounters or straight sexual encounters. For primetime tv, while my kids are up, these are shows I refuse to watch because of the smut, not because of the sexual orientation but the sexual themes in general. I think Glaad just needs to stay out of peoples business's. Fine you're gay, I'll live with that, but frankly I am sick and tired of you flaunting it in my face everytime I turn around. Its not like my wife and I make out in front of gay couples just to draw attention to ourselves, why do you have to do that in front of us? It just doesnt make sense.

I Love The L Word...

...I have a season pass for it on my TiVo. I have so many gay and lesbian people in my life, it's just business as usual as far as I'm concerned. Of course, sexual preference means nothing to me. I like to value the person for who they are as a person. Sex is sex. Whatever. :-)

Funny, FOX has some of the raunchiest stuff AND gays/lesbians on shows...and I thought they were dyed in the wool Republicans.

BossLady, there you are wrong, they are not all

dyed in the wool Republicans on that channel. Fox and Cnn, Drudgereport.com have been listed as the most watched news outlets.

We Quit

We quit watching TV (except for news and sports) a long time ago. Raising three kids (now all in their teens) and trying to instill Christian values made that necessary.

BTW,I teach my kids to treat gay people with compassion even though we don't agree with - or condone - their lifestyle choices... We draw the line at viewing media that promotes their way of life. That doesn't seem to leave much out there.

Dwr1961

Here is my question- Why is it promotion? Do TV programs attempt to convert the heterosexual segment of society to homosexuality? How do you "promote" something that is physiologically innate?

I guess what you are saying that being gay is a choice, but I can't believe that. Why would anyone choose to be gay? Why wouldn't you choose to be part of the majority instead of the minority? Who would choose to be a part of a group that is stigmatized, victimized by hate crimes, fired from jobs, and does not receive the same legal protections for their relationships?

If these are Christian teachings they are fundamentally flawed, and make no sense. Since 1973, modern science has said that homosexuality is not a choice. Why do Christians insist this is a morality issue instead of what it really is, an ordinary and inborn variable amoung humans?

dwr1961

I'm curious dwr, when did you "decide" to become a hetrosexual? What grade where you in at the time? Did you weigh the pro's and con's of each lifestyle, make a list? What finally convinced you to make the Hetrosexual choice? Do you still have the notes?

Of course you didn't choose, just like Gay people do not "choose" to be gay. The choice argument is just a ruse to justify discrimination against them, as it's easier to discriminate against someone who's "chosen" to be different than someone who is born that way.

Gays and lesbians on television programs

is a propaganda tool to show the American public that these people are just like you and I except that they just happen to prefer having sex with their own genders. So what? I don't care whether people have sex with a blowup doll or some one of the same sex as them. Just stop flaunting the fact in the public's face. Let these people marry each other if that's what makes them happy. Let them have the same rights as the rest of the heterosexual population. Who cares? It's not my place as a Christian to judge them anyway. If their lifestyle is wrong to God, let them explain their actions to Him. It's not my place to dictate morality to anyone with regard to sexual preferences. I'm not talking about pedophiles and the like. Those people are sick and should be castrated publicly.

timetraveler , if you think this is right about the insurance

then boyfriend and girlfriend should be able to cover each other on their policies. It would be only fair. I could care less if they get married, more power to them if they truly love each other.
I see nothing wrong in it. But it needs to work both ways.

Are you talking abt health insurance policies at the workplace?

Then, let's just make the whole thing okay, so I can cover my grown kids who don't have insurance coverage either.

timetraveler

Seriously? You don't see anything wrong (or should I say hypocritical) regarding this statement?

"It's not my place as a Christian to judge them anyway....I'm not talking about pedophiles and the like. Those people are sick and should be castrated publicly."

This is a perfect example of what makes atheists hate Christians even more.

No I don't see anything hypocritical

about my statement. Dial 1-800-whah! I don't give a crap about what an atheist thinks about anything. They have the right NOT to believe in a higher power. But they don't have the right to push their belief on those of us who do believe in a higher power. Everyone is entitled by the laws of the constitution to believe whatever they want just so their belief doesn't step all over someone else's beliefs.

By the way, just for the record, I'm not one of those Christians that tries to convert others to my view point, so don't even go there.

I'm not judging anyone who prefers sex with their own gender. However, I am drawing the line on deviant sexual practices such as pedophiles who prey on the innocent who don't have the ability to just say "NO!"

But if you say I'm being hypocritical, then, let's just say to hell with all the laws. Why not make murder legal because after all, why should anyone stand in judgment of what was going through that person's mind at the time they committed the deed? Self defense or not. "Hey, they pissed me off so I blew away that so and so."

The point is, society as a whole has to draw the line somewhere to keep everyone safe from dangerous people but, no two persons will ever agree on what is not ethical and what is. Same goes for gay and lesbian rights. And abortion issues for that matter.

Who cares?

I don't need television shows to mimic my day-to-day life. Nor do I take example on morality/ethics/etc. from TV. I felt the same way when the issue was how much ethnicity was on television shows. Hello, we live in the Treasure Valley. Not really diverse here! TV is meant to be entertaining. That's all. Entertain me! Don't lecture to me about the appropriateness of the characters' demographics. I don't care! I want them to bring something to my life that I wouldn't otherwise have by not watching, whether that is a moment of laughter, empathy, etc. The packaging does not matter, it's what's inside that counts.

Sen.Craig has worked dilligently to bring this wholesome

family entertainment to us for years. As he begins his retirement with his beloved wife, Larry can now share the joys of complete perversion with his family....

Gay bashers brought this upon themselves

ya know, if y'all haddn't of got so hysterical about the gay thing it would never have become elevated as an issue. Instead, your right wing sheeple let Rove and his minions turn a nothing issue into a wedge issue which attracts more simple minded sheeple to the boob tube! Big audience = big advertising revenues. Way to go, gay bashers! you make the twisted TV moguls even more powerful! snark.

Blind loyalty to bad leadership IS NOT patriotic!

This is what I've noticed

in the last 3 decades. People who are against certain things - abortion, homosexuality etc will change their mind when a life situation changes for them such as they make a mistake and need an abortion. Then, suddenly, an abortion is just fine with them.

Or the same goes for being against gays. A person will be against that sect of society until they find out they have a son, a daughter, brother, or sister who is gay or lesbian. Then, suddenly, they aren't so gungho against the situation because being gay has gotten more personal and they realize that being gay is not like being from outer space and having two heads or something. Not everyone can be persuaded to change their minds but some people do because of life situations.

I used to be anti-gay because of religion beliefs. I am more tolerant now because I have had friends who are homosexual. I didn't stop being friends with them because I didn't agree with their choices. I liked them for themselves and their personalities and opinions etc. Most of these friends have moved away from this area and we've lost track of one another as happens in any friendship.

I've noticed that some people who are against the gay and lesbian community get wrapped up in the rhetoric of "special rights" and don't see what these words really mean. It's not "special rights." It's special in the eyes of the majority who have these rights because they are heterosexual, and the old laws and the constitution were essentially written by caucasian and heterosexual men. In colonial times, being homosexual, among other situations against God and religion, was a crime punishable by death.

Our forefathers never envisioned the United States becoming a society that would allow homosexual rights. Or giving women rights or even giving African Americans rights. The list goes on and on about how American society and the laws have had to change with the times as the country and attitudes have progressed.

So, yeah, the gay issue wouldn't be an issue at all if the media and religion had stayed out of the situation and let the laws be changed to allow the gay community to marry so they can use the life insurance, work place health insurance, and probate laws like the rest of us.

Excellent!

Objectivity for a change! Thank you!

You're welcome,

Curious2.

Thanks

for the voice of sanity Timetraveler

Are you being sincere

or sarcastic? It's difficult to discern tone of voice in the written word.

If sincere, thank you. If not, oh well. It's only my opinion.

Sincere from me, tt...

It DOES change when it becomes personal. Well said.

Republicans for Obama / Veterans for Obama

Thank you, B_dub.

It's nice to get a kudos once in awhile instead of being ripped on.

I'm voting for Obama. And I'm a veteran. Nice to make your acquaintance.

Hilarious, fastsaluki...

Sock puppets. You're killing me here. My God, you have a way with words.

Fiscal Conservatives for McCain. Now there's yer oxy, moron.

What choices are there?

I don't feel that McCain is the right person for the job, either. Can you take up the reins of leadership and do right by the Presidential office? If so, go for it.

We're stuck, tt

But we really don't have a choice for the "perfect" presidential candidate who has a snowball's chance of being elected. I refuse to vote for anyone who is a member of the party that enabled this fiscal fiasco. The Republican agenda has been successful beyond their wildest dreams. Their success spells our economic failure.

Palin/McCain '08!!!!!!

Everyone is a critic.

All talk and no action. It's the keystone of the American way. I wish I had the answers to all the problems we face in this world today. I'd be a rich person and a hell of a president. But I'm not in the know, and I'm just a lowly American citizen who wants the best for my country. May the best man win this Presidential race.
