What do the new OHV rules say? : comments

Thanks for the clarification

Will this keep the kids off the roads?

"When traveling on roads, operators of an off-highway motorcycle, ATV or UTV must have a valid driver's license, carry liability insurance and have a vehicle equipped with the required equipment to do so."

It didn't before...

So where will the money go???

Granted it isn't alot of money but it is another tax. I have been paying for a regular motorcycle license plate for my ATV. I assume this was set up so I wouldn't be paying highway taxes for roads I couldn't ride on.

Bet it doesn't go to

the FS to maintain FS roads - or to the counties to maintain county roads.

I have yet to see any enforcement of OHV rules that were already in place.

Why do we need licenses in addition to OHV stickers?

This is just a way to tax us for the same thing twice. Tax money that won't go into trail maintenance or to help educate ill informed users, but rather go back into the bureaucracy of BLM and Forest Service.

IdahoFowl, these monies will probably be kept..

at the state level. BLM and Forest Service receive appropriated money from congress. They have to receive permission to keep what they collect like the fees collected along the Payette River and then over 80% has to be invested in maintenance and improvements to the sites.
How the state distributes the money, you will have to ask them. The county sheriff offices have been looking for another pocket to pick and this might be it. IDPR is always looking for extra change too.
Hold them accountable and make sure you are receiving some type of service other than added overhead in the IDPR office.

Thanks for the info Hayseed

This just seems like they are bilking us twice for something that we are already getting a bad return on. A portion of OHV gas tax dollars are supposed to go to trail and OHV area maintenance, and the OHV sticker monies are supposed to as well. Yet my family and I hardly ever see trail work being done.

IdahoFowl, can't argue there...

I was raised to be accountable for my actions and I hold my political leaders and bureaucrats to the same standard. Amazing what a phone call or letter (sometimes multiple) will do. Be safe out there. You sound like you are one of the sane riders. I almost hit a kid on a quad coming up Sage Hen road. He was in a full four wheel slide around the corner and didn't slow down once I got past him. He was all helmeted and padded, probably thought he was invincible. Hate to have had him as a hood ornament

Over Head Valves?

Aren't these standard on cars now?

Strategery, overhead as in people...

new positions, empire building. I like your thought though.
