Sorry Bob...
I feel kind of bad for Bob. He's got some really big shoes to fill. Some of us fans are pretty freakin' dedicated, and we're used to having a guy calling play-by-plays that was there for the 1-AA national champtionship, that remembers when there was a baseball diamond on campus, and that can pronounce the name of the town (hint-hint, don't screw that up...).
It'll take a while- but I think eventually we'll get used to him... as long as no one tries calling him "the voice of the broncos"...
Smokey
Amen to that...
Paul J wore shoes?
To be honest Paul J needed that knowledge to make up for his horrible broadcasting skills.. We have some real talent here and sounds like he'll call the games well for all those who have to listen to it on the radio. Ok by me if he doesn't know that BSU's baseball diamond was destroyed to make room for Taco Bell Arena or that The Bell used to be called the Pavilion. He sounds smart, he'll learn all there is to know about Boise State Athletics. Best of luck Bob and hopefully you stick around!
I didn't even know about the ball field!
No WONDER it's cramped!
big shoes
Maybe Paul J. can get part-time work shining Behler's shoes.
I'm delighted to give the guy a fair break. IMO, it's past time ol' Paul got put out to pasture, and I'm looking forward to the change.
Stupid!
He has absolutely no history at BSU or even the West! He can't give any history during his play by play, insight for who BSU will be playing, and know how hard it was for BSU to get where they are. Pretty lame!
So
you figure he can't read then I take it? Because all of the stuff you just mentioned has probably been written down at some point or another.
Too funny
Like the old guy knew every new player each year by some sort of osmosis!
We are FINALLY getting a top class play-by-play guy, supremely qualified and actually KNOWS the sport. Bummer huh?
I might listen now.

Why do you end every post with
http://www.constitution.org/constit_.htm?
Because it's important to know the Constitution these days
and I got tired of clowns here telling me I didn't know it on the more political threads, so I added it as a signature line.

Holy Crap
First we are "blessed" with Brian Murphy from back east at the Statesman, now we get another easterner. Most people back east think the U.S. ends at the Mississippi. This may not go over well with some of you, but as a native Boisean and BSU alum, I'll take a Californian any day for the two aboved mentioned jobs.
He's from Cali
He has to make many mistakes before he catches Paul J.
What was sad is that Paul J was the best they could get for 35 years. I only wish they could have made a smoother transition, but I am not sad to see PJ go. It was about 10 years past time. You have to start with somebody.
PJ Wasn't "The Best They Could Get" . . . .
he was the ONLY one and they settled for that. I agree, Commentforhire, it's waaayy past time. My, my, people do hate change!
I just hope
that he can pronounce Boise right..its Boise, not BOYZEE...that is so irritating
Depends if you're a thug...
on Vista or Broadway, son.
It's about time
To those "dedicated" fans of Paul J, have you ever actually listened to him? He spends more time marveling at the other team's players than at BSU. Yes, broadcasters are supposed to be neutral, but come on! I'll be glad to hear a voice I can stomach, and one who knows who the players are on both teams, not just the visitors.
Come on, guys
UMass is a D1-AA school in football, so this guy is absolutely qualified to render opinions regarding WAC-level football. Besides, Paul J may hve been enthusiastic, but he was lousy at play-by-play.
Oh good one Shute
Knee slapper really (D-2 comment)
P.s. I have a nice little blurb about that track you hate in our stadium:
“We purchased East Junior High School, just a quarter of a mile from here, that will give us 15fi acres we can access next summer,” Bleymaier said. “We'll move the (running) track out of Bronco Stadium and our next expansion will be to horseshoe the south end of the stadium and add another 6,000 seats."

BSU Announcer
This selection appears to be first class all the way--it doesn't matter where they come from as long as they can do the job--the folklore will come with time but certainly isn't a necessary part of the job (and isn't that the color guys job?)--BYU and Utah have been in similar situations--longtime respective announcers James and Marcroft are gone and their replacements are terrific-- there's a saying about the competitive selection process--"the worst thing that can happen is that you'll get something better"--it looks as if BSU is moving forward (evolving)--GO BRONCOS!
Wow great post
Please read it over and over everyone who doesn't want to give Peak a chance. Thanks dBriceLee, GREAT post!
Paul J
Many of us have been listening to PJ for years and yeah he does make mistakes, but he has tremendous enthusiasm for the Broncos and his job. Plus, he has an unmatched history of how the program got to where it is today. There is no way the new guy will be able to relate to our history or PJ's fondness for the Broncos.
I will miss PJ, but I am willing to give the new guy a shot at it and see how he does. He will never replace PJ to many Bronco fans. It is going to be strange listening to Behler and I hope he grows on me like PJ did.
It is what it is
get used to it and give the guy a chance.
Broadcast
Some of you may be used to Paul J., and I actually kind of liked him; but, he was not a voice of a major college football program. Paul J. sounded liked a high school or jc college announcer and if BSU is going to be a for real major program, a quality voice is very much needed. And for the person who is complaining about the new guy having no experience out west, that is immaterial. The "voice" has an entire staff behind him providing stats, history, etc. I'll never forget one Paul J's great lines "...if he hadn't gotten tackled he would have ran for a touchdown."
Pretty much impossible for BSU
to be a "for real major program" given that it's in the WAC. Even good old bNo would admit that much.
Only slightly
Playing in the WAC hurts the "for real program" label.. However we are top of the mid-major class alongside BYU, Utah, Fresno, and maybe the occasional Crap-USA team. Also you forget, we're only getting bigger, better, and sights are high. This team has a future and its becoming increasingly bright DShute
Sights are high?
What exactly are you targeting? The Pac 12? "lol"
Who knows what'll happen in the next 10 years?
Pac-12 could happen with a new commander in chief (Possibly WAC commish Benson?), MWC could expand and give BSU a stronger in conference schedule, or BSU will still be here doing what they're doing and doing it well. Whatever happens the sights are high on more BCS bowl games to come.
That's cute
that you think BSU might be invited if the Pac 10 did happen to expand. It isn't grounded in reality, but it's cute.
Did you know the University of Texas reportedly wanted into the Pac 10 but was rejected? But hey, I'm sure BSU has a shot. What with the facilities, research focus of the institution, quality of undergraduate and postgraduate education, breadth of athletic offerings, etc. The heck with Texas, GO BRONCOS!
PS - the Pac 10 won't expand in our lifetimes. Period. Lots has been written on the subject if you'd care to look into it a bit.
PAC-10
Deschutes. I'm a PAC-10er too having season tickets to one of the NW universities. Some BSU folks seem to think that it's just athetics. As you point out, all of the PAC-10 schools are research based institutions and most of them are fairly high ranked public or private universities. They also have many programs for both men and women. Have you noticed the ads on TV that claim BSU is research based? BSU is a good school for what it is...but it is what it is. It doesn't rank with Stanford or Cal or UCLA. Yes, the football team may someday beat a PAC-10 school at home, but it won't offer PhD that equal what the PAC-10. Heck, the College of Idaho is a much better school academically than BSU. I'm done on this for now.
Cute, what an adorable word DeShutes!
Yes I did know that but they were rejected because the nearest Pac-10 school to Austin was 788 miles away (Arizona) and eight of the 10 schools are in the Pacific Time Zone which would result in a two-hour time gap with most of Texas.. It wasn't about academics but nice spin, down the shute.
Better speculation concerns Colorado being interested in joining the Pac-10 with a MWC team.
I'll clear things up for you deshute, I honestly don't know what'll happen in the future and could care less because there's no way our program is going to go backwards and we're doing pretty well these days. GO BRONCOS
BSU already part of the PAC-10
In wrestling.
So it's not a huge leap to be part of the PAC-10 (12, 14, whatever) in football--some day maybe.
Yeah wait till september..
I bet the Pac-10 pulls the pug on its Pac-10 Wrestling conference. There's a meeting in september to discuss this as there are now only 2 Pac-10 schools participating in wrestling
"for real"
I agree completely. With the new modern press box maybe BSU can lead to the next level and leave the WAC forever. I'm pretty much a cynic of the current league but if BSU can keep progressing (and quit playing the Idaho State's) maybe it will become for real.

Come on people
It's pretty much impossible for BSU to be a "for real major program" until BSU voluntarily chooses to play (and beat) "for real major programs" on a regular basis. You criticize the WAC but you hide behind it for your record. What happens when you play a major team on the road (or a bottom-dwelling PAC-10 team for that matter)? This new guy's from Georgia. I'm sure he can remind you.
it's a small program...
a small-time program needs a small-time announcer like Paul J.
UMass?
Oh boy. Will he croon Tom Brady too? What a joke. Boise State handeled their announcer transistion with class. Not.
Please notice I said "if"
Well I agree with both of the last posts, but I am only trying to give an unbiased opinion. I see the "for real major program" is opening with Idaho State before it tackles the WAC!
Bring back PJ
bring back Paul J!!
He sounds like a girl. How long do you think he will last?
?
Add One More From the Bear State
At his very best, Paul J. was a homer which is what you get when the home team has a contract with the guy you work for. He was always finding excuses for the Broncos, especially when it came to basketball. Most of the time his critical remarks fell on the shoulders of the officials.
I'm sure the new guy will be more professional. However, what's more important, we can welcome another relocated Californian to Idaho. Let's hope he's a Democrat.
2 year contract
Does it seem strange to anyone else that somebody would relocate across the country for just a 2-year contract? I think if someone offered me a 2-year deal to move somewhere on the east coast, I'd be saying "thanks but no thanks". I too hope that he will be able to pronounce the name "Boise" without the "Z".
Good luck to the new Play-by-Play.
Plenty long for a new guy
People move across the country for jobs without contracts.. If anything this shows he's really in this for the program and his career. He's only going to have a couple years to prove himself whether he goes somewhere else or wants to stay here. Heard some audio on him at the fight fight bsu blog, sounds like a great quality announcer.
That's True
2-years might be a long contract in that business. I can't dog the guy because I've never heard his play-by-play before. I wish him well and success.
Didn't Peak only get a 2 year deal
It wouldn't be wise for them to offer Behler a contract for a longer period then they are guaranteed the radio broadcast rights.
Anyway Bob - ignore these naysayers, welcome to Boise and good luck. I hope you get your own sports talk show from say - 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. so I don't have to listen to Caves and Prater to get some sports talk.
California Sucks!
and so do MOST of the Californians that moved up to Idaho
How about getting Kenny Blankenship and Vic Romano
From MXC?
Best. Announcers. Ever.

Right you are Ken!
"Runs around the corner. Moves into a 'Leaning Bishop'! Oh and into the fluid."
And our safety fluid today is...
sack sweat from the Race to Robie!

Bwahahaha
This stuff is gold.
No, I'm not being sarcastic.
