8:23 p.m. -- Resident kills pit bull in driveway : comments

Nice doggie.

maliengus

Do you ever leave your computer? Wow! You must post over 100 times a day! Have you seen the sun in weeks? Get some sleep, get something to eat, go to the bathroom, do something away from the electronic teet. It was a racist pitbull anyway.

LOl, Watcher

this is my second surgery in a month. I'm pretty much bedridden for the next two weeks. Back to real life in two weeks. Then you probably won't hear from me for another year. A hundred posts? Hardly. Maybe twenty, tops. I just woke up from a three hour nap. My second of the day. What's your excuse? Count your own posts! LMAO.

Hey Mal

Its a clone. This "Watchor" is too coherent to be the real Watcher. If I remember correctly this one is another one of the high school researchers having fun.

Thanks for the heads up IO!

Happy

to be remembered. Hope you're well soon Mal.

what's up with this cloning thing

Now we have "watchor", "Reddog81", and some version of Doc I can't remember how to spell. Are we at war here?

nobody_important

Well I think that "watchor" was part of a high school research project. The others? Who knows. People with too much time on their hands and not enough real stuff going on in their lives to keep them busy. Its amazing how a message board can make people act like they are in the 7th grade again.

nobody_important..by..interestedobserver

AND OBVIOULSY YOU ARE JUST REFEREEING, ITS NOT THAT YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS. The more time you have on your hands, the greater the representation of minus value , or a sure representation of your tremendous success. Either way, it is just an opinion!!

Is he posting on district time or equipment?

Can you find crap on it?

Please

go back to sleep. Watcher is right your only life must be on here. How sad. The only thing watcher left out is how much of a loser you are.

Kiss my tender hynie, TheSki...

If this forum were my "only life" as you put it, then explain to me why you have only seen me posting on this forum for the last month. Before then? Nope. After mid-June? Nope.

Oh...and you're a real winner, TheSki.

Bwaaahaaaahaaahaaaahaaaa.

maliengus...

TheSki claims that he is not Doc, but he sure seems to be every bit the vicious attack dog that Doc is.

I still have my doubts.

For a guy who claims to live in Alaska, he sure does spend a lot of time in Boise.

Oh, yes...Alaska.

Where the livin' is easy and the money flows like water... Home of the highest priced gas, milk and beer in the nation.

I think TheSki'toe was trying to convince me that everything was practically free in Alaska and I was full of shyte because I did a little "real world" price check.

Yep....

sometimes you do what you have to do. No one takes pleasure in shooting a dog, no matter the breed. But, owners need to be responsible, keep their pets on their own property and if they fail...then crap happens. Two years ago, we had a red pitbull dragging a huge long chain come on our place and get in our chickens. Then as my husband was trying to chase him out, he growled at my 6 year old daughter through the chain link fence. I called dispatch to send someone to get him, and while I was on the phone my husband shot him. We live in the county and were within our rights...but we still felt like crap. No one ever came around looking for him.

yea right

Suuure it was threatening him. Go back in the house, the dog will leave. Pansy.

Yes. That's the ticket...

the dog will leave and maybe come upon a small child. That's good thinkin' Cynic!

Translation?

Huh? What does this mean?

"The resident said the dog had been threatening him, dispatch said, and he is waiting for police to arrive."

Are they quoting the resident or the dispatcher? Who was waiting for police? The resident, dispatch or the dog? Go Statesman!

maybe

perhaps the dog was threatening the dispatcher.

Good riddance

Pit Bulls are not pets, they are vicious worthless animals.

California

u give CA a bad name. Animals are worthless only if their owners are worthless. trust me. I've never owned a pitbull, but my friends do. they have more sense than you do, for sure.

pit bulls vicious?

Only when breeders create it. That doesn't make pit bulls worthless. Labradors bite more people anually.

nobody_imp

I so agree with you, but there is no one breed out there that will not bite.....

Our Gang's Petey was a pit bull!

Obviously you've mixed sulfaneas (sp?)or something for diabetes and pot. I met a guy that did that, went into a rage, was held and they thought he would be okay until the next day he awoke with the mentality of a two year old and needed diapers.

vicious worthless animals...

...are generally a reflection of vicious, worthless owners.

Behind most every vicious domesticated animal is a human that caused it to be that way.

Nevertheless, if I were being threatened by a vicious dog on my property, I would do the same thing.

b_dub

no doubt about it. hello, i'm not going to believe or trust every pet owner cares for their pet like they should. i'm all for protecting myself, fam, and community. the whole story is sad it had to end this way....

indiangirl....

Yes, it is sad. I think that all potential pet owners and potential parents should undergo psychological testing before being allowed to be either. We'd have a lot fewer screwed up pets and kids.

ooo B-dub you had to go there

i was contemplating if i should include kids in the equation....mine is 14 and wonderful at the moment. but i've seen my friends' kids take that wrong turn and makes you wonder. as for all pets i've owned, they have been pretty good too. go figure. people, please refrain from pets and/or kids if you cannot dedicate the time/effort

I went there, Indiangirl....

...because humans have a lifespan about 5 times that of dogs, and have the potential to wreak a lot more havoc than dogs over their lifetime. There are some pretty messed up kids out there, mostly because of messed up parents. Same outcome, different species.

Over my life, I've lucked out with 2 kids that have turned into great, productive and loving adults, and 6 dogs (2 of which were rottweilers) that have been loyal, loving, and most definitely not vicious companions. It's all how you treat 'em....give 'em love and respect, and your time and you will be rewarded. It really isn't all that hard.

YES YES -DUB

I so agree...I hope my 14 year old human baby and my other 2 canine babies will grow and be stellar "beings" in the community.....I have hope now.

No doubts, indiangirl...

...you have what it takes.

Hmmph...

Some folks moved in to our "neighborhood" last summer with two pitbulls.

They were often loose. They mauled my neighbor's Rhodesian Ridgeback and cost a couple thousand in vet bills.

They came onto our property a couple of times when our small children were outside and scared the hell out of me.

The last straw was when they were loose and followed my kids down the lane after getting off the bus. One wrong move by one of my kids and I don't even want to think about it. I ran out of the house and I had my shotgun with me.

We complained and complained to animal control and finally the dogs were taken away from the owners after about a dozen violations.

They moved. The dogs were euthanized.

Too little information leads to too much comment

This article gives very few facts so far. I'm sure there will be more details which will lead to more debate. In the meantime, I'm curious about the gun fire. How threatened can you be to go and get your gun and come back out to shoot the dog? And then call the police? Or were we "packing?" If this guy was armed in his own driveway, why? What threat was he expecting? Personally, I'd rather face most pitbulls than brain dead gun handlers.

Packing?

Expecting a threat? People who carry aren't expecting threats and encounters any more than the police expect to get in to gun battles every single day. It just happens. You don't know when, you don't know where. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I love pit bulls...

...especially when they are bleeding and dead on my driveway. ;)

It is the responsibility of

It is the responsibility of the dog owner to insure their dog is not a threat to other people and to insure they are securely stored or leashed.

If the dog was aggressive the person was well within their rights to stop the threat. The person responsible for the dog's death is the dog's owner.

The bottom line is a dog can inflict a massive amount of trauma in a very short amount of time. There are few ways to respond to an aggressive dog without being injured.

As citizens we have the right to protect ourselves and others from bodily injury, if that be another person or a dog and to use whatever force is reasonably necessary to do.

Also while it is illegal to discharge a firearm in the city that ordinance would not be enforceable in a self defense situation as the right to self defense supersedes it.

I'm More Afraid Of...

...my ex-husband than I am of Pit Bulls. I know! Let's regulate abusive husbands by banning them from within city limits. Let's limit homeowners insurance on households which have abusive husbands, while we're at it, because they're a liability. And let's ban their families too, because c'mon, we all know certain "breeds" have more of a propensity for violence.

I know people with Pit Bulls and Pit mixes and every single one I know is a good dog. Better than my mother's Retriever who liked to bite adults and small children.

AMEN ANASTASIAA!!

you said it! people are so much worse than animals.....

Why, thank you, IndianGirl...

I happen to have a Dobie and a Pit mix right now. My 60 lb Dobie is AFRAID of our 8 week old kitten for crying out loud! A couple of my boys' friends have full Pits. They are sweeter than my mother's Retriever was.

Vicious Dogs

Can occur in many breeds. They should be identified immediately and dealt with. Having one around is too much of a liability. Might as well throw a loaded firearm out in the yard. Owners who intentionally create this problem should be banned from owning a dog.

This guy

seems to have done everything right he called and then he defended. Good for him. This is what I would do too. Pit bull or chiuaua.

pits are worthless

LAMO all of you that think pits are nice dogs. And one of you said labs bite more than pits, well so do poodles, but that is the law of averages, there are more of those dogs. If you own a junk yard then get a pit or that type of dog, what else are they good for? At least he had the coconuts to take care of of that type of dog. As long as he can articulate it in a statement or report that "his safety and or life was in immediate danger" they cannot find him guilty, they can charge him, but it will not stick if he has good counsel...... hope he reads this....

harleydavidson

buddy, where r u getting these averages, per se. "Law of averages" would definitely shoW that "loser" adoptees were proportionately "MUCH higher' the pets being adopted

Hmm

So many comments...so little time.

First, Anastasia...intriguing suggestion. I must say I did giggle at that one and nod my head in agreement.

Second, ANY dog can be vicious if taught to be so. I have heard stories of damn near every breed biting at one point or another. Personally, I think Pit Bulls just have a bad reputation. This particular issue, not enough info as previously stated to make a real judgement call on whether the dog should or should not have been shot. If dude was just being a pr1ck then that isn't right. If the dog tried to attack him, that's a different story and he may be justified.

Third, TheSki, many could tell you for a fact that mali is pretty much a regular on here. Don't let "it" try to fool you.

Ahhh, yes BoisePride...

I remember you. Salisbury(?) chick shot on I84, right? How long ago was that? That was the last time I spent any time on this board. And before that? Probably another year. Summer/Fall is my busy season. No time for this.

A kid gets bit by a lab? Chances are he'll walk away from it. A kid gets bit by a PB? Not so much.

Salisbury Chick?

They must have you hopped up on some good meds there. Unless you took on someone else's name, you spent a whole lot more time on here recently than you're copping to.

A child was recently in the news for being attacked by a Pit Bull and wow! he walked away from it. Kids are resiliant. Again, like children, animals actions are taught by their care takers.

BP: Who was that friend of

yours that was shot 5 times and killed on I-84, high on meth and approaching the cops without stopping as ordered? Wasn't her last name Salisbury? How long ago was that?

That lucky kid you spoke of? The exception, not the rule, and you know it. Who was that 7-yr old boy walking down the dusty Texas road last week, mauled and killed by two pit bulls? Wow! Didn't walk away from it:

Aww

Stanfield and not that long ago. Investigation results proved she was sober. Nice try though.

Now let me type this slower for you so you can understand it in your doped up state.

I s a i d t h e a c t i o n s o f t h e a n i m a l i s a d i r e c t r e s u l t o f t h e t e a c h i n g s o f t h e o w n e r.

Lucky child yes, never claimed it to be a rule. Was using recent events to rebuke your statement in regards to "A kid gets bit by a lab? Chances are he'll walk away from it. A kid gets bit by a PB? Not so much."

Yes. Stanfield.

I didn't stick around for the investigation results. Too bad she was sober. Means she should have known better. Damn shame.

Haven't taken any pain meds in two days. Doctor says I have one of the highest pain tolerance levels he's ever seen. Just a tough old bird.

You can rebuke away BP. I stand by my opinion: A kid gets bit by a Lab and chances are he'll walk away from it. A kid gets bit by a Pitbull? Not so much.

Google "child killed by Labrador." How many hits? Google "child killed by Pitbull." How many hits?

The anecdotal evidence is on my side, not yours. Rebuke away.

Have to wonder

First, allow me to offer you your honorary gold star for your pain tolerance. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Second, I don't expect you to change your opinion. No more than I am going to change mine. Me thinks you need another 3 hour nap there cranky. You take this crap WAY too seriously.

Moving on....
