Actor Farina arrested after gun found in luggage at LAX : comments

Gun Safety
This is most likely a case of an honest mistake and a moment of forgetfulness, but it underscores the importance of gun safety and awareness. While I am in favor of the right to own and bear civilian arms (do we really need assault weapons?), there are so many instances of forgetful moments, honest mistakes, and tragic accidents. Can you imagine what could have happened if the loaded gun had been found by a child or if it had misfired during the inspection as the bag was being tossed around on the inspection conveyor belt or while the TSA inspectors were rummaging through the baggage?
He would've been better off in Boise
Reminds me of Richie Duane Burrows, who fired his handgun at the Boise airport Southwest Airlines ticket counter on 9/10/02 by mistake. His "punishment" was to turn the handgun over to security, and he was able to make his flight!
Yes a dumb mistake, but
he put nobody in danger. TSA or anyone else would have to handle the gun to fire it. I"m sure they don't have any children working for them either. Give the guy a break. He was in possession of his bag. It's not like he left it laying on the ground for some kid to pick up. The only thing he did wrong was take it through a security check point.
Hopefully they can get it reduced to a misdemeanor and let him keep his gun rights.
Although I do agree
that hopefully he will be able to plead down to a misdemeanor, I disagree that someone would have to handle it for it to fire. A friend of my family was moving his gun cabinet, it slipped out of his hands and one of the loaded guns went off from the impact of dropping the cabinet. It shot him in the chest and he died in front of his kids. Although he should have been safe, they should have been unloaded, etc my point is with guns you don't always have to pull the trigger to fire them.
assult weapons
even our government can't settle on the definition of an assult weapon and IF you want to get technical - ANY WEAPON CAN BE AN ASSULT WEAPON - that would include bats, golf clubs or any "weapon" you would perform an assult with. We could end up like Englang where it has been proposed to ban large kitchen knives because they have become the "assult weapon" of choice now.
As I stated on other threads on this topic, I own several firearms and can tell you specifically where every one of them is - at all times.
You are 100% correct when you say gun safety and awareness are important - important enough to know where your guns are.
I'd expect it from Farina.. afterall...
I'd expect it from Farina, afterall his stereotypical character is a mafia type. Who else would have a weapon?
I'm going to be interested to see if his "violation" is treated anything like our Canyon County Commissioner...
Siagon...new and better???
Gotta travel tomorrow so better check my suitcase for the AK & M.
Mateo...
Yeah, Siagon here..
You know, once after these new restrictions came into play, back in the 80's, I had a girlfriend who was "cross" with me, she put a 9mm on my carry on. I didn't get arrested, but I did get "jacked up" pretty good...
One time, coming back from the Far East, I had a swiss army knife in my brief case. I had to let the pilot carry it or I would have lost it...
Crazy world.
Of course in Korea and Tiawan, the Airport Security were in full combat gear, with AR-15's or Uzi's flak jackets and no sense of humor. No one screwed with them...
Siagon...gonna take a few to get use to it.
I liked the old name, we were in Nam about the same time.
Coming out of Heathrow once I had a pocket knife and customs told me to just put it in my computer bag. Leaving Ahmdebad India the same year (99, when al-queda made their presense known) I was escorted thru security by the Indian army and onto the airplane. Their was a soldier every 30' or so surrounding the airplane, all armed to the teeth and looking 'out'. You don't mess with a guy with a big feather in his hat and carrying an AR. Don't even want to mention the flight out of Mumbai with the airplane pulled back into the gate and a full search of the 747 while we were on it. I travel a lot world wide but will not go to the mideast again.
Who else?
Who else but a Mafia type would have a weapon? Maybe one of the 80 million legal gun owners in the U.S. - 99.9% of whom are not "mafia types."
A criminal is a criminal
He should get the consequences of the fullest extent of the law!!!!
Where is the MUG shot?
I can't stand this special treatment!
Hit
Maybe Dennis thinks his old buddies from his Chicago days have a hit out on him. After all, he has played a hood a few times. Maybe the mob didn't like his performances.
Honest Mistake
It seems like an honest mistake to me. He should be fined for this mistake. A felony seems to be quite harsh for his forgetfulness. Oh I know that he didn't have his gun registered, but so what. It doesn't seem that whether or not a gun is registered has actually done any good in preventing crime. I doubt that your average gang member or average thug has registered their gun, but the average citizen (you know the ones who probably do not commit any crimes)probably has. The crime rate in California is as high as its ever been, even though your required to register your gun. Seems to me like the state of California just wants the gun owners to jump through hoops to own a gun in the hopes of discouraging gun ownership. Besides it seems like a good way to get more revenue to build up their socialist state, you know, where those who were smart enough to start a business or go to school so that they can make good money and help pay for those who were not smart eneough. 'Nough said.
