Popkey: Paul's stealth campaign makes Idaho GOP nervous : comments
Submitted by admin on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 12:43am.

ABALONE!
I raise your BS with HORSEHOCKEY and call 211 to protect the childish.
Ron Paul's No Republican
Ron Paul ought to be running on the Libertarian ticket, but I imagine that he realizes that he'd get even less attention there than he does as a fringe Republican candidate.
His "organization" is more like a bunch of anarchists, and whiny ones at that. If this is the way that he and his gang work within their own party, just imagine how divisive things would be once they got involved with Democrats.
Apparently his people haven't got the word that Paul is more than just marginalized - he's irrelevant to the Republican party. All they're doing is cementing an image of a bunch of crybabies who can't come to grips with the fact that they lost.
Libertarians couldn't get a ticket...
shooting from a car at 115.
Duh! Haven't you heard of judicial review
Rob Oates, chair of the Idaho Libertarian party and Caldwell city councilman introduced the concept of judicial review where jurors can not only review the facts in a court case but can decide the merits of any law on the books. He was essentially complaining about County Commish Dave "Now where did I put my gun" Ferdinand and his subsequent run in with the law over forgetting to stow his loaded .38 into his check in luggage. He was cited and released by BPD and Oates had the gumtion to write a letter to the editor of the Press Tribune about judicial review and imply that Ferdinand's case could be decided by judicial review of the jurors. If this were the case and judicial review were a prevalent funtion of juries who's to stop us from abolishing all laws with judicial review.
This concept isn't new
It was at one time called "jury nulification". It is not a good idea. Do you really want 12 people deciding if a law is worthy of being on the books or not?
Here is an example - several years ago my ex-wife was on a jury - the crime - statutory rape. She told me that the sense of the jury was that the girl had consensual sex with the defendant, then when she got mad at him had him prosecuted for rape. They didn't want to convict, the jury didn't even like the victim, but did because of the letter of the law - she was under 18 and legally couldn't consent.
If the jury had the option of jury nulification they could have just as easily thrown out this law for all of us, based on the fact they didn't like the victim. (Now with the law thrown out, all the individual who knocked up the 10 year old has to do is convince a jury that the 10 year old wanted to at the time. But that is another thread.) Later they found out that the defendant had a long history of actions like this. This fact wasn't allowed to be presented to the jury as prior acts of the defendant often are not allowed to be presented to the jury.
It is much better for us to push our legislators for changes to this law if we don't like it. (Several states also require a certain age difference between the participants for the statutory rape charge to stick.)
In Dave Ferdinands case, I think the law states something about knowingly attempting to carry a firearm on an airplane. The jury can also decide that he didn't have the required intent.
Jury nullification is an American tradition
Jury nullification is an American tradition tried and true. It's called government of by and for the people and it's been a part of American jurisprudence since our inception. It is only in recent times that it has been squelched by judges etc. It nullified prohibition leading to it's repeal or you would be a criminal for having a beer or a hard drink.
It's the last line of defense the people have to nullify bad laws of which we have an over abundance. Get educated, you can start at the Fully Informed Jury Association at: http://www.fija.org/
It's a pretty sharp double edged sword
While it prevented the enforcement of prohibition laws in some circumstances, it also prevented guilty verdicts of those charged with lynchings and murders of negros and civil rights activists in the south during the '50's and '60's. See http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/zenger/nullification.html
I guess how good of a idea this it depends on if you can find 12 people who agree with the defendant, but disagree with the elected representatives that passed the law in the first place.
Jury nullification
Anyone that opposes jury nullification just has never met a person that has been wrongfully convicted of a law and particulary these rediculous drug (marijuana) laws. That does not include Methanphetamine. That needs to be prosecuted. Or for instance breaking the law by selling raw milk to a neighbor which people are being persecuted for. Jurors are expected to have some common sense and decent values. Take for example the Jury found the Branch Davidian survivors not guilty on all counts with the exception of one misdeameanor type violation and the crooked judge gave them 40 years in prison for defending themselves during an offensive attack on them. The BATF fired the first shots. The Jury, had just one person had the mental capacity of a gnatt should have found them innocent on every count. Jury nullification is there for the protection of the public. The incarceration of people, guilty or innocent has been turned in to a commercial business and to send a person to jail is a means of making money for some and there is nothing to say that a judge cannot have shares in a for profit privately run but federally contracted prison. Only an Idiot would favor the dissolution of the Jury Nullification procedure. There may be a rare incident where the guilty person gets off but the innocent are sent to prison on a regular basis without it.
Nope
Pauls no republican. He is a conservative. It's what republicans used to be before they turned into liberal democrats with a false name.
How can any republican call McCain a republican?
He is about as socialist as Billery. "A one hundred year war",, For Israels benefit?
We now have Democans and republicrates.
Both parties are exactly the same!
While I would vote for neither, Both Obama and Billery are as republican as McCain is.
Ron Paul will not be our next president but anyone who is either a republican or a conservative in any way should request a write in ballot and vote for him anyway.
Beings I'm gonna waste my vote this November, I'm gonna wrote in "McStoneguy" I know I'm at least as qualified as Obama.
This message was approved by me, "McStoneguy" and paid for by no one, but the "McStoneguy2008" may as well pretend, Eh?
If I am elected I promise to guard the northern borders from those darn Canadians and Swedes that keep forming gangs and dealing drugs here in the U.S.
We have to stop those European people from coming and settling here, Them people assimilate, We just can't have that!!!!!
Ron "The Borg" Paul
You will assimilate, resistance is futile.
Nope , Ron Paul is what Republicans were
I agree with you, quite especially with the Idea that we must keep those Europeans out and let all the 3rd world immigrants in. The first thing you know those educated European people would get together and start mfg companies, build nice gated communities, invent auto's that would run on water. Clean up our environment without having to tax us out of house and home. They might start making cheap steel that would impact the Chinese economy and mess up Wal Mart. At least the Immigrants from the south are creating jobs. Why we could have a WPA program instigated again for all our unemployed people to pick up the trash that the immigrants have strewn
across Texas and Arizona. One thing we know for sure, McCain and Obamanation and Hillary are all endorsed by the New World Order/One world government pushers who are the Banking Olegarchs and their minions Using the mainstream Media to brain wash the couch potato's and soap opera watchers. You can bet they will vote for one of those domestic enemies because they have never heard the name of Ron Paul. His name was forbidden on the mainstream and barely got a mention. Vote for Ron Paul.
The Republican Party is...
...supposed to be against Big Government and high taxes. That is what Ron Paul stands for. He is one of the few old-school Republican holdouts. All the others willingly abandoned the Republican Party principles in favor of power.
The Republican Party is something to laugh at now. Just about a year ago Juan McCain was anathema to the Republican Party and was widely known as, and called, a RINO. NOW HE'S THE NOMINEE!! LOL!!!!
But, you "Party people" put Party ahead of principle. Therefore, you will go out and dutifully cast your vote for Juan McCain like good little Party Sheep.
You can ridicule Paul and his supporters all you want, but at least they are guided by principle. You mainstream R's are merely guided by "winning." You've become useful idiots for the Republican Party but you think you're being "loyal."
They could throw Oprah Winfrey in front of you as the nominee and you'd all vote for her like good little Republicans!
Ron Paul
Boy, do you have a surprise coming!!! Hehehehe! We're gonna show you and all your upitty lil neo-con compadres that you ain't nowhere near as smart as you think you are. What started with 12 is now down to two and RP is one of them. The RNC and the Jew owned American media, bankers and businesses, all of whom stand to lose the most if he gets elected, have done everthing they could to stifle his message and smear his name. But as a wise old philosopher named Mahatma Ghandi once wrote ... "first they will laugh at you, then they will ignore you, then they will get mad at you, then they will fear you, and then you will win!" As we see it, we're somewhere in between fear and winning.
Add to that ... the venue where the nat'l convention is being held, seats a little over 18,000 .... the streets of Minneapolis is where Ron Paul will have his Convention attended by about 100,000 thousand, or so, supporters from all over the world. We've even invited the Libertarians, the Indepedents, the Greens and the hard line religious conservatives to join with us. We're gonna have a "Grand Old Party" once again, just like it used to be. Yous guys need to bring your sleeping bags with you come cus traffic will be at a standstill and hotels are already filled up. Its gonna be very difficult for McCain, his neo-con Republicrat henchmen, or his sheeplike supporters, to get much of the National media attention. What you guys have yet to comprehend is that this isn't so much about RP as it is his "Revolution". Even if he doesn't win .... we aren't going away. We're going to take "our" party back ... one way or the other! My granny used to tell me when I was a kid ... "we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way, but which ever way we do it .... we're gonna get it done!"
See ya'll in September!
What An Idiot
Nice try but it won't work trying to act like a Ron Paul supporter talking about taking over and oh don't forget to throw in a racist remark too... LOL! Sigh Go Home shill!
Keep it to yourself
Your ignorant paranoid antisemitic fantasies are not wanted here.
No John "Keating Five" McCain is No Republican
Perhaps we should let the voters in their precincts decide who they want for their committeeman? Unless of course your opposed to an honest vote? Seems to me SOME GOP insiders are worried people in their precincts might actually get educated and vote in who actually best represents their interests...
democracy in action
I think this is called the democratic process? Or do the republicans think they are a theocracy now?
They couldn't keep a show together in Branson if they were...
the Osmonds.
Go figure. Really cool Mormons that you rarely criticize too.
How is this different than that oxycontin addict
How is this different than that oxycontin addict Rush Limbaugh telling his listeners to register as democrats for the primaries and vote for Hillary Clinton to throw the democratic party into chaos. That is so pathetic and desperate. I like the fact that Ron Paul has the GOP worried. They should be very worried. The party is over for them. Now its time for democrats to cover all those bad checks that ignoramous George Bush has been writing for the past 8 years that his butt cant cash.
I agree with you except that
I agree with you except that the democrats are no better and will not cover those bad checks. They will just continue to write more bad checks. They are two sides to the same coin, all bought and paid for by the lobbyist and special interests like big pharmaceutical and the military industrial complex, central bankers etc.
His Butt
Don't have to cash those checks. The U.S. people have to. He will go back to Mom and Dads place. With of course a couple hundred grand a year of taxpayer money and a full secrete service crew for life to make sure he is always safe.
Don't even get me started on the pension plan that anyone that could even run for pres sure as shat don't need.
Well, here's where you're
Ron Paul doesn't have secret service protection, and he has refused the retirement pension.
A few more...
He doesn't take Medicare in his private medical practice, has never accepted junkets, and returns a portion of his office budget to the Treasury every year. THAT's conservative.
Since Ron Paul loves kittens too,
he should be President of the U.S.! Somewhere, the mothership is waiting to take Ron Paul back to his home planet.
Don't call Republicans liberal, please
Liberal comes from the word liberty.
The republicans have stripped away our freedoms, engaged us in a needless war, and have tried to turn this country into a faith based theocracy. They've spent and printed money with no regards to paying the bill.
The liberals have said if we can't pay for it, the money is not going to be spent and have been overriden consistently by the fact that "liberals" don't have a veto proof majority and the republican obstructionists block their bills (with Bush's help).
In today's times liberals have a lot more in common with Ron Paul than do 99% of the republicans.
Yeah, Ron Paul is the only republican for whom I could vote.
I keep hearing it
Nice talking points
But where's the proof?
I have the same freedoms today, that I had eight years ago. Which ones were stripped? What did I miss?
Faith based theocracy? Apart from being a repetitive statement, what faith is being forced upon us? What theology is being forced?
And don't blame the donkeycraps inaction on anyone but the donkeycraps.
Good Thing
It's only "ONE Opinion" You are not possibly as dumb as you sound are you?
Really, Come on,,,
You believe what you say?
Naw, No way. You're paid to sound like this ain't ya?
Where is the proof? Are you blind?!
How about record deficits since Reagan under every R president and R congress?
How about the continuing restrictions on the First Amendment rights of people to speak out against the war" Lawful peaceful protesters are routinely removed from Presidential events, then let go after the event since there are no lawful charges against them. Even shirts and signs are censored, antiwar groups are infiltrated, citizens are bing spied upon by the government.
How about the continuing restraints on the Fourth Amendment under the guise so called wars on drugs and terrorism?
How about Bush's Office of Faith based Initiatives that have funneled billions into conservative Christian causes and have allowed religious groups that receive federal money to discriminate in hiring. I don't mean to be personal but your post indicates a stunningly uninformed person, without a clue as to what is happening to our nation or that you simply don't care and are happy to goose step along with the growing authoritarianism/theocracy in America.
You are absolutely right, Vet4peace
Except I do think that this Republican has taken his party to a new low that even Nixon could not have envisioned.
patriot act
Here's a very good example ... can you say "PATRIOT ACT" ???Don't feel bad, though, none of our quite handsomely paid elected officials in Congress bothered to read it either! I hope that you never give anyone a reason to suspect you of anything ... on second thought!
Seig Hiel !
The freedoms you have lost
Apparently you don't realize the freedoms you have lost because you have not tried to use them. US citizens used to have many many freedoms that they did not use on an everyday basis but we were content knowing that if we needed them they were there. That is not the way it is anymore. Do you know that the FBI or Homeland Security can now come to your house and write their own search warrant without getting it from a judge. Are you aware that there are actually "Free Speech Zones" in some places in our country? Did you know that we no longer have the right of habeas corpus? Do you even know what habeas corpus rights are?
zekeenaja Vietnam
Vietnam was also a war for humanitarian causes, Iraq I believe is one of them. I'm for going after terrorist. Saddam was a terrorist to his own people. Afghanistan is where the jerk that planned to blow us up is. So you call this a needless war to go after people that want to kill us. Wow you are actually I can not even say it.
Vietnam a Humanitarian war???
Come on Terigro.. talk about revisionists..
Where do you get your information???
hu·man·i·tar·i·an (hy-mn-târ-n)
n.
One who is devoted to the promotion of human welfare and the advancement of social reforms; a philanthropist.
adj.
Of, relating to, or characteristic of a humanitarian or humanitarianism.
Our involvement in Vietnam was anything but humane. Just as we are doing in Iraq, we are causing the misery, suffering and death of thousands of innocent civillian victims who were hoping for a better life from the Americans. Instead, we bring political instability, sub-standard living conditions and an uncertian life and certian death.
We've blown any chance of helping. Our best bet and their best bet is if we leave now.
Hoorah! Terigro
Hey dude, tell me where to send the ticket and I'll pay your way over there so you can fight with the sombeaches. But you gotta promise me you'll make them send my son home in return. If you really think this is about creating a democracy in Iraq you're an idiot. This is about our intervention, on Israel's behalf, of reopening the Iranian oil pipeline to Israel that runs straight thru the middle of Iraq! Yeah, the one that the Shah built for them. The reason is because those mutherphuchers are so hated in the world that no one else will sell it to them but us! Why do you think they invaded Egypt and took nothing but their oilfields as the "spOILs of war" then gave them back when the oil was gone?
You wanna fight them Bastar*s then you go fight em ... but I want our kids home! There's not one drop of American blood worth a million of theirs.
Rickinhouston, let me give you the 4-1-1 on Terigro
Rickinhouston, terigro is a female, former nurse, or nurses aid who is a disabled veteran. She spends alot of time watching Shout Shows by the Republican bully machines and Oprah. All of her "knowlege" comes from things she hears. She often forgets her position but defaults to Neo-con.
I akin her to a bush bot.
They vote for people in their own likeness,
Believes everything they hear,
They are distracted by bright objects.
She believes in Creationism,
The earth is 6,000 years old and
the Old Testament.
sorry Farang I do believe we are alot older then what the bible
says. Science is the true thing to believe. Me being a neo con not at all. I believe the republicans have lost their way with Bush. If there was someone better to vote for then who was running at the time I would of. I like to go by who would do the best for this country.
one more thing Farang I was a registered Nurse not a
Nurses aide.
A R.N. and don't
And don't believe in Evolution?
Evolution
Then offer an explanation for ....let's say ... Dinosaurs, ...or the pyramids ... for a starter!
Geeze Rickinhouston....
Geeze Rickinhouston, you want an explanation for the Dinosaurs?
Didn't you ever see "The Flintsones"? Sheesh... some people....
Fred, Barny, dino the whole crew.. it's a documentary...
That Wilma, such a beatch.. did you see how tight she wore that bone in her hair?
Evolution is an explanation for the pyramids?
Please go back and play in the sand box. The adults are talking.
The pyramids P_J
Didn't you see the Flintstones???
What do you think Fred and Barny did for a living?
They used dinasours to lift those big rocks...
Easy there...
A lot of people are Christians. I choose to believe that God made us rather than we descended from a rock, like evolutionists do.
So, it sounds like I believe "in the beginning, God..."
And you believe "in the beginning, a rock (of which I don't know where IT came from)..."
And you suggest that Christianity is the foolish belief. LOL!
rickinhouston I did go to war in Iraq, I was one of the first to
go. So no need to buy me a ticket. I and the majority of the military over there would laugh at your statement. The people there want us there trust me on this one.
Here is another person's statement about being there.
Miles, 57, of Sioux Falls, S.D., is a chief warrant officer 4serving with the 42nd Infantry Division in Iraq since last August. He flew helicopters in Vietnam for a year starting in February 1969. He e-mailed from Iraq.
"You really can't help but compare your enemies when you get the opportunity to face more than one," he says. "The Vietnamese were much more dedicated and resilient than my current foe. They were all committed to one goal, whereas our current adversary lacks organization and true commitment. While we do see a few (enemies) who would be willing to give their life for their cause, 99% of the citizens over here really want us here and help in any way they can. They can actually see that we are really here to help them, whereas the Vietnamese never did see that."
"I really don't get many questions from others over here about Vietnam. In the few conversations I have had with others, I still get the feeling that that is one situation the U.S. Army would just as soon forget about."
I appreciate your service to our Country
However, I reserve the right to disagree with your logic. In my mind it takes a very special kind of person to go to war, blow people up, destroy their homes, their livelyhoods, their today's, their tomorrow's, make many of them orphans, and then just get on a plane and come back home and "blend in". You talk alot about "the enemy"! Can you tell me what "the enemy" looks like? What are the colors of their uniforms? Who are their generals, their commanders, their captains, even their sargents? How do they standout from just regular, ordinary people? My understanding of the situation is that everyman has the right to have a weapon and that everyone that doesn't is either a fool or casket fodder. And I suggest to you that, if given an opportunity to vote, without duress from either their government, the US or the militias, that they would much rather us be gone. As bad as life was under Saddam Hissein, our presence has made it 10 times worse. Again, I respect that you did what you were ordered to do because you had no choice in the matter, but please don't try to convince me that what's being done over there is for their "own good" because I simply cannot and will not accept that. These people should be left to their own demise afterall it has been their way of life ... and death for 2,762 years and it is about nothing more than a disagreement over a religious figure and his decendents. We cannot defeat an ideology, noe can anyone else!
Damn Terigro!
Is there anything you haven't done? A nurse, a soldier in Iraq,I know there's a several other things you've mentioned. You are one busy chick. How have you managed to stuff so much into one lifetime?
maliengus, My military years are done
When I was young I always wanted to be a nurse. Went to school became a nurse during my first years in the military. Then I went to Iraq for 1 year 6 months at a time. Then I was in a bad auto accident while on leave. Then no more military so I started a business. And now I live here in Idaho thanks to my hubbies job.
Ricknhouston is bringing Jew hating back in vogue!
It does my heart good to see good old fashioned Jew haters like ricknhouton alive and well. We need parasites like him to speak out from time to time to remind us that Jew hating never goes out of style. AM YISRAEL CHAI! (The people of Israel live!--despite the intentions of Nazi Aryans like ricknhouston)
I thought that was already passe in San Francisco...
when "KKKSFO" as the ba.broadcast wags called it fired Melanie Morgan. Actually, I don't even get that because former KTVB reporter Darya Folsom works/worked for KRON 4 news, has an unofficial hottie fanclub and is also decidedly Jewish so I think it was pretty much Citadel not standing for the garbage talk on the show. All the rancor came when Disney owned it and KGO-AM
Gawd!
Look for some bright star some where. A Savior must have been born tonight!!!
LMAO!
I found where I agreed with PJ and now , YOU Zeke?
Holy crappin cow!
There must be a bright star in the north west sky!
