Lower infant homicide rate in Idaho raises questions : comments

Thats sad knowing that people get away with murder, maybe instead of spending billions on crap we dont need to spend money on, how about spending some money on medical examiners. In the end though, those who get away with it has to face god in the end.
Something isn't right with this story
There's too much of a liberal slant to this story. I have a hunch that it's based on a few things. First being Idaho is mostly white and liberals want to try and drag down Idaho with stats that show white folks kill their babies as other folks whom are not white.
How can there be so much caring for babies when this country has allowed 50 million babies to be slaughtered from the time of Roe v Wade.
Here's a text book example of how the liberal media and liberals at large twist such stats. The liberal and their media which the Statesmen is one of, say that there's 30,000 people in America that die from gun violence each year. What they don't tell the public is that half of the people they are using in that 30,000 number willingly killed themselves with a firearm. How can it be that it's wrong for a person to willing choosing to take their own life isn't a part of personal privicy. But it's a choice to kill a baby who if the baby had any say so wouldn't want to die and would beg and cry to say, "please don't kill me I want to live".
The gun violence stats are used to attack the Constitution with the intent of destroying what liberals see as the weakest link in the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment. I see the liberals wanting to get the stats on this topic to somehow twist to be used in a raceist way to attack Idaho, being Idaho is mostly a white population.

The Statesman seems to have a "bash Idaho first" agenda, regardless of the actual topic being discussed. If the Statesman just referred to these infant deaths as "very late term abortions," the left would be endorsing them. Pretty sick.

I think that this whole liberal versus conservative attitude just divides the country and inflames people to choose sides on issues that really aren't very clear cut. When there are stories on here about infants being killed, everyone acts like they want nothing more than to get the guy who did it. Now here's a story about how there may be infants getting killed and nobody's getting caught and you guys are trying to make it into a liberal versus conservative issue? How is this a political issue for you and not a moral issue? Also, if a person is "liberal" in your view, does that sum up every belief that the person holds? Are you automatically in agreement with every idea held by a "conservative"?

Staunch Republicans will stand up for anything that leans enough to the right, just as staunch Liberals will stand up for anything that leans enough to the left. It's the way it is - all black and white (sadly). There are other parties that are off-shoots and look at the issues in various ways - Humanitarian, Libratarian, Independant, etc., etc. These parties are for people who don't believe exclusively in the far right or far left ideas. Next November, ask a few people how they are voting. When you get someone that indicates they are voting straight Republican (or even straight Democrat if you can find such a person in these parts), ask them WHY they are voting this way. You may be surprised how many people do not pay any attention to the issues, they just vote Republican "because my family has been voting Republican since Idaho settled."
As to the issue at hand ... what a great thing to add to Idaho's already-stained reputation. Wanna kill your baby? Move to Idaho and suffer no reprocussions. This needs to be addressed.
Fashion and Death
Trying to prevent gun deaths by virtue of making guns illegal or hard to get is a gigantic step in the wrong direction. Gun advocates typically have the 'well, it's in the that there Consteetushun' rather than pointing out the obvious: making guns illegal is as smart as making alcholol illegal and carries many of the same consequences. True, the consequences for making firearms illegal would be far greater, sorry for the shabby comparison.
Trying to prevent people from getting abortions by making it illegal or difficult to procure is a gigantic step in the wrong direction. Do you want your daughter, sister, friend getting an abortion at a clean regulated clinic or in a hotel room with a coat hanger? People are going to make that CHOICE whether it's illegal or not. I personally don't agree with abortion whatsoever, but I do think people should have the option to seek it out safely.
People are going to seek weapons and abortion regardless of the legal status of those goods and services.
That's not my opinion, it's a fact.

Abortion here is not the issue.
You fail to talk about the problem by skirting the issue. The state does not demand that its coroners are medical doctors with a background in forensic science. This article has nothing to do with abortion since abortion is legal. Once you turn the law around to fit your needs than you can approach the homocide topic. When you get a bus driver, the relative of an elected official to run for coroner than you deserve what you get. Resolve the issue of having possible incompetants determine whether a murder has been committed. I really don't want to have a janitor, albeit even a smart one decide on whether someone died of asphyxiation or was murdered. The county may elect a coroner but who wants your boss to know less about the body and forensic science than a turtle.

Better security blankets
It is hard to imagine that there are many subjects more sensitive than monsters potentially getting away with infanticide. Idaho is behind the times for way too many important issues. No disclosure laws and easy-open revolving doors, limited affordable housing, coroners winging it as best they can with the meager tools and skills they have. –The list is long.
Yet, the statistics presented here regarding infant deaths are not convincing slam-dunks.
First, the article states, ”Only one of every 14 cases of sudden and unexpected infant death was declared by the state’s all-elected coroners to be a homicide.” nowhere does it say what the normal is for the rest of the country, but from what I can glean this seems to be only one out of every 12.
The graph in today’s Statesman print edition is equally muddled, incomplete and holds limited convincingness.

What we are left wondering is which categories of infant death are missing? And how much of each are those are reduced when the deaths that are deemed accidental suffocations and homicides slightly rise?
It is certainly extremely sad when, parents who are already traumatized due to the death of a beloved one, are told that the resources are limited to investigate their child’s death, and that’s as far as it’s going to go.
Yet, there seems to be a mixed message in this report, which is perhaps babies are generally safer in Idaho, yet some homicides are going undetected.

Whenever the Statesman presents facts/articles that personally offend or disagree with the conservative non-thinkers in this state, the paper is liberal. When they write of something that supports conservative values why don't we hear you Republicans supporting them?
When I read this article, I surmise that we could have infant homicides going un-noticed because of the fact that we don't have educational requirements for coroners. That seems to me to non-partisan and totally logical.
Watcher, you need to quit reading the NRA website. And of course, everything there is unbiased fact as well.

I don't want to disclose too much about my identity, but I have spent 15 yrs in law enforcement in Idaho. The second day on the job, w/o any training I was sworn in as a "Deputy Coroner" and told I had the State Authority to pronounce people deceased. To this day I was never given any training on what I should do when responding to an unattended death. The elected Coroner at that time had been a school bus driver in his prior employment. I know what I am speaking about here. Many unattended deaths, both adult and juvenile, in Idaho do not get any investigation by anyone with experience in the field of death investigation. The Coroner hardly ever responds to the death scene. The common practice is they inspect the body once it arrives at the Funeral Home. Many States, if not most States, require all unattended deaths be given an autopsy. Idaho does not. I have seen healthy people under the age of 50 that had not been sick or seen by a doctor in months pronounced dead and never given an autopsy. Most County and rural agencies operate on a very small budget and use that as an excuse for not doing autopsies. There are no "Doctor Boddens" in Idaho. There are probably less than 4 certified Forensic Pathologists with any experience in homicide investigations in the entire State. When a Deputy Sheriff, who makes less than $25k a year in most cases, investigates a death scene about all that he can see is bullet holes or stab wounds. Anything more needs to be discovered in a lab setting by a trained professional. I'm running long here, so just understand and wake up about how things happen or don't happen due to the amount of money that is available, not by what is needed.

Well this is exactly the problem and it affects issues such as this and many others. Idaho has a linage of cronies, entrenched in the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial levels of our State Government and it's gets only worse at the local level. You'll find when you fight one incompetent government entity, you'll end up fighting a "family" of incompetence. These folks have managed to keep Idaho, in a regressive stranglehold.
Just thank God each and every day, that as time goes on, more and more of these cronies will be forced out and important issues can be proactively addressed.

Now I don't know if I would go so far as to "Thank God" for each and every day, but you invoke the word god, so I take it you are a believer. I would like to point out that people all over the world seem to follow such a supreme being, or creator be it god, bhudda, the sun, or what ever one manipulating person has designated as the only escape from pain and suffering, and total forgiveness. The individuals being directed by tradition and active "men of god" have been told, "Live this way, and when you die you will go to heaven, and there will be no more sorrow", haven't yet figured out that when you die, all the pain and suffering is over anyway. The pain and suffering only last as long as you live, and it happens between the ears as well as upon your body. If I were to start a new religion, based on math, which all religions could be assigned a mathmatical value, then it would not be based on such amazing tales as found in the bible, but on the simple equation of 1+1=2, 2+2=4, and all else is Bull Sh_t. When you understand the application of this, you will automatically understand why there are many gods, and traditions that capture your time and money. Idaho is over-wrought with religious factions. Manipulators simply provide an intriguing element,(material, theoretical/physical, or philosophical in nature), then convince you that, you MUST have this in your life. Joseph Smith didn't like the way one such document was worded, because it didn't let him claim a different bed partner each night, so he changed the book, and created a new hypnotized group which is now a viable authentic force, regardless of how or why it got created. I will say, what person, man or woman wouldn't enjoy a different piece of pie each night? When you are in tow, you will spend all your minutes and pennies to support that which has been sold to you. Everything is so simple, it is all the same. There is good and bad, if the numbers don't add up, then it is probably bad, or (Bull Sh_t), and if it does add up, then it is mathmatically sound and can be verified. So bottom line is, not even school trained coroners that are medical doctors, can always display the truth, politics fed by greed, corrupts everything it touches. Sometimes the more educated are just more capable of spinning YARNS.

The truth is only found at the end of the line, just like in fishing. I don't particularly like the idea of Abortion. Destroying a person, or what has the potential to become one doesn't seem right somehow. I think it's irresponsible to use Abortion as birth-control, I wouldn't want the decision to end a life I created (mistakenly or otherwise) before it had begun to burden my soul.
People emotionally reacting to this issue always result in an illogical response. People either scream about the life of a child they don't even know, fighting a battle they don't fully understand. Then you have the people who don't want their ability to 'choose' infringed upon. These are the same people who can't handle the mighty powers of choice in such a way that it would preclude acquiring an unwanted pregnancy. Both sides are ridiculously flawed.
People get pregnant when they don't want to. This isn't new, it's as old as humanity itself. People sometimes decide they don't want the child and seek to terminate the pregnancy through any number of methods. This isn't new either. Folks are going to make that CHOICE whether it's legal or not. Some folks think that legislating this issue is going to solve 'the problem'. I don't think they could be more wrong.
Guess what!? The world is a dark and scary place where bad things happen. Nothing, absolutely nothing is going to change that. Sometimes passing laws can help a society cope with these bad things, or sometimes it just makes those bad things worse. The brighter the light society casts, the darker the shadow.

Argueing about abortion when we are concerned of causation and possible murder. Abortion does not fit into the legal picture because it is not considered murder legally. Morally you may feel that way.
If I'm at home and no medical person is around at my death. The person that pronounces me dead of whatever cause affects all those who survive me. I have a life insurance policy that the cause affects. I just want some medical official with a background in forensics to tell the world why I died. If my relative is suspicious of the causes of my death, I want them to know exactly why I died.
