Is democracy dead?
Submitted by vet4peace on Sat, 01/05/2008 - 3:38pm.
Recently ABC and Fox sponsored debates. US Rep. Ron Paul and US Rep. Dennis Kucinich were both excluded. Both men have important things to say, Paul representing a libertarian view point and Kucinich representing left progressives. Both men were on Bill Moyers Journal last evening and the points of agreement between them were stunning. Both men have a handle on the big money corruption destroying our democracy, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the diminution of our civil liberties and the general abuse of power and so forth. Unlike most of the other candidates, I believe these two men have actual political principals and personal integrity but the corporate press disallows us, the American people, to hear their clear and unambiguous message and decide if their message deserves support. Interestingly enough, post debate polls showed both of these men "won" (when allowed to participate) their respective debates which tells me that their messages are resonating with Americans. Hmmmm maybe a connection? Of course this happened last election too when Nadar was refused participation and threatened with arrest if he did not leave the premises. This is outrageous and I do not understand for the life of me why Americans are not demanding democratic reform. It seems to me that anyone who is truly dedicated to our democratic republic and the principals of liberty and limited government regardless of party or favored candidate should be speaking out and demanding change.

Nope.
Democracy ain't got a dingy-dang thing to do with network TV and the FCC says so too.
Next.
Foreignoregonian is right
Just a couple of weeks ago, the FCC voted to relax the rules on media ownership. Rupert Murdock, who now owns Fox, the Wall Stree Journal, the NY Post is probably the most powerful man in America. That's why it's such a joke when conservatives talk about the "liberal media."
Do you actually watch FOX programs...
OTHER than The Simpsons or That 70's Show reruns? Football, baseball?
So how then is Murdoch a threat?
Here is how
By limiting and censoring what the public can see and hear in the media. The more concentrated media becomes, the fewer opinions and view points are available. Media are often owned by non-media corporation such as GE. When corporations or anyone owns the TV, radio and news papers in a given market or the nation for that matter, only one view is available. These corporations have a specific point of view and no interest in "comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable." No offense, but isn't it obvious?
Here's a great link
that explains your position completely.

Now what are we going to do about it?
Continue to ignore them, as usual!

Where do you come up with such pablum?
So far all the idiots report all the same crap anyway and little of it is worth a dime.
No,you don't need to know EVERYTHING. That isn't even a good LEFT-WING idea. Please. Stop feeling like everything is out to get you...it is already. Live with it.
Thanks for writing
Democracy isn't dead.
It's just resting.
It's pining for the fjords.
Beautiful plumage.
Politics
Watching politics national, local for many years, it rolls down to one simple answer it's a joke! Ole saying "Those with the gold rule". 2000 elections, perfect example, McCain would have won South Carolina, money men weren't having that, he couldn't be controlled to their benefit, so he was "swift-boated", with dirty politics. Bush needed to win to promote their agenda, country club Pubes have used conservatives to their advantage for two + decades, manipulation of social issues, nationalism, taxes, they could not stay in power without this group. Two buck Huck won in Iowa, hopefully he'll win in South Carolina, money guys are nervous, conservatives winning with one of their own wal-mart candidates' how can this be. Answer, Bloomberg! NY exmayor Guiliana, isn't in with this bunch, besides he seems more fitted for the local mofia (he has interesting side business's?) Clinton has the best experience would hit the ground running, but were all tired of the clinton's. Obama, great political skills, Big learning curve? Minority with power, more than most white folks could accept. Well, the gold rules; stay tuned.
Nobody has got gold, not even plastic.
There will be change alright.
This is the very best change we have to muck it up PROPERLY in about 33 years.
Red, blue?
Meet dirt.
