If You Ran the 2008 Legislature...
Submitted by udapimp on Thu, 12/13/2007 - 2:18pm.
What you like to see the Idaho Legislature do in 2008?
(other than go back home).
Seriously, what are some positive and doable (repealing the income tax is not doable)things?

They have vehicles.
I'm not carrying them on my bike.
Medicinal Cannabis
Medicinal cannabis (medical marijuana) legislation is long over due. The medicinal utility and safety of cannabis is well established. In the 12 or so states that have done it so far, we are not seeing any untoward fall out. Allowing Idahoans to suffer needlessly is just plain immoral. This is doable and would not cost the state anything. Necessary programs can be paid for by reasonable licensing fees. There is no rational/humane reason not to do this.
Wonder what the medical advantages to alcohol
were that makes it socially acceptable? $$$$$ in the pocket of contributors! Government revolves around money, like the revolving door in politics allowing representation to become lobbyist. Simple math will get pot legalized before medical reasons, taxes will be the end of arguement before medical needs. Don't suppose government realized how much money the mob was making on booze before taking over that business? How much money does the state of Idaho make on liquor every year. How much do we spend on prisons & health because of alcohol?
Self medication by millions of Americans is legal while over 17K Americans are killed in alcohol related auto accidents every year yet that evil weed isn't even legal for medical purposes. I suspect the economy, infrastructure trillions of $ in need, & now the rail systems about to go off the track, will drive legalization more so than medical. We're going to pay higher taxes, grocery, fuel, income, & more or government is going to have to find a new tax. Already trillions of $ behind with war in Iraq & Bush pushing for war in Iran?
Prices are going to keep going up, infrastructure will continue to deteriorate, & new taxes, $$$ will drive legalization. I wouldn't doubt if government does a 180, makes the arguement that we need medical pot & it requires legalization so we'll just tax it & let peole smoke. Driving under the influence? I guess we can take the speed limit signs down, put new ones up telling us to maintain your speed, don't block traffic. Like the guy in today's paper, busted for driving 55 in a 75 zone on I84. That boy was medically right in his mind, a rolling speed bump. A few million of those & we could eliminate traffic cops all together, traffic would self adjust to a stoned 55 mph, & all cops would write tickets for would be seat belts.
We'd save on fuel consumption too, just like the olds days of 55 MPH speed limits to save fuel. Wow, a cure all. Medical, generate taxes, save fuel, & eliminate the need for so many well armed police trianed to drop you like a dirty pair of shorts. Billions in revenue & savings. Feeling better already? Fights over, it is medically advantageous.
Yeah there probably is...
I would rather die quickly in a hospital or home than being vilified or in jail dying.
I had a girlfriend spend the last eight years of her life slowly dying from cancer, in and out of remission. When the end was apparent not even the narcotic painkillers were of help. She quit smoking a month prior to her death on this date today...
She died Christmas Eve 1995 at about 1 am.
If you are going to die, no distractions are going to be helpful.
You made more money than I did.
Congratulations.
