Opi Gomez Obituary?

Just curious, is anyone else offended that the Statesman will allow someone to publish an obituary for their DOG right alongside someones beloved grandfather? I know I am! (see 'Opi Gomez's' Obit in the 2/10 paper)

dont get me wrong, I love dogs (and have 3 myself) but no matter how much you love your dog, I dont think you should be allowed to do that...
Maybe the Statesman should creat a pet obituary section, if they feel the need to do this

We're all dead dogs in the end.

Stop freaking out please.

All dogs go to heaven

I imagine many persons would be grieved if their recently deceased loved one's obituary were listed by or near that of a beloved pet. I don't believe it would negatively impact me, even though I agree the practice shows insensitivity to family and friends of the deceased; and all viewers.

'The Idaho State Journal,' a S.E. Idaho news publication, does run pet obituaries for it's readers. Those obits are not run on the same page as the obits of human beings. The dignity of death is maintained by that media, and should be by this one, too.

Yes, but if that was my

Yes, but if that was my grandfathers obit next to a poodle I would be pissed. I'm glad to see that the dog was well traveled but there was no mention in what b$#@h's he left behind.

Crazy

I can't believe the Statesman allowed it. It is offensive.

If they keep allowing dogs they will have to change the spelling from 'obituary' to 'obitchuary'.

Aw, nuts they can't win!

Call it that and it will get mixed up in the celebrity news.

now that's funny

now that's funny

opi gomez

well you think thats funny but ummm did u know opi gomez?
cuz i did and he was like family.
and your making fun of him.
its like if one of your family members died would
you be laughing then huh?
yeah didnt think so.
its okay teri gomez they will never understand.
we love u teri and opi we will never forget him.

Trollkins...sleep it off, that dog died last year.

I suppose it is.

A loved one dies

and the bereaved want to post an obituary. How does this translate into disrespect?
It's that species prejudice, rearing its ugly head once again.

FWIW, I wouldn't care if Mama's pic was next to Opie's in the obits. They are/were obviously both beloved. Who's to say they loved Opie any less than I love my Ma?

RIP Opie.

No offenses here

Sure it may seem like the Idaho Statesman is disrespecting humans by printing an obit on a dog. I don't believe they meant to offend anyone. There's a possibility that they don't even know it's a dog (our dog has no last name, like Opie). Now, I know some people who treat their dogs as if they were children. They buy them clothes, massages and high end dog ice cream. Does that offend anybody as well? I'm sure if enough people ask for a pet section in the paper, the editor would be more than happy to comply.

I know...

at least one lady who has been treated better by her dogs than husbands or children.

C'est la vie

209 mystery solved?

I've heard 209 contains Stockton and Modesto area numbers.

Is the solution: SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS?

Stockton, Modesto, Sacramento and San Jose have been areas served by McClatchy Newspapers, correct? Sacramento Bee and Mercury News would be there at least as I recall.

Not cryptic after all?

Well, I guess NOT!

At one time it may have but it's part of MediaNews.

Does McClatchy still own the Bee? I seem to remember either the paper or the radio station they owned was being sold or had been.

While it SEEMS like a strange error it does seem that there is a presence in that area that is owned by the publisher of the Idaho Statesman.

I have to look at my phonebook now...20SIX is NW Washington and overlayed/split by two other ACs I think.

opi

I was offended also. I love my dog, and I appreciated people who love their special little friends, but, when I saw a dog next to peoples loved ones it pissed me off too. I couldnt believe they were allowed to do it. But I guess obituaries aren't cheap. Money talks. Im sorry Opi is gone, and like all the animals Ive loved and lost I hope he's in heaven waiting, but GEEZ! Next dogs will beable to drive? Dine next to us at Ihop? get jobs at Burger King? Come on now.

You can wait a few more...

generations when cockroaches rule the earth and will post notices.

Some claim they already rule the internet...?
