Good Time for Prisoners
Submitted by kimrayline on Tue, 06/10/2008 - 5:02pm.
Our Idaho prisons are overcrowded...no news there. Does anyone have opionions or ideas on getting "good time" back for prisoners?

No. Cheaper to deal with them there.
Seriously. It's cheaper to keep them in a controlled environment than to throw them out here and ask them to cope with horrendous prieces for everything.
Cheaper for who?
Do you have any idea how much it costs to house a prisoner?
Do you know how hard it is to live on disability?
I'm glad yoi are optimistic though....put it to use someplace. I'm surprized you haven't been broadsided by the kill 'em all crowd here yet.
Thanks for writing. You have no idea yet of what everything costs at all.
Love to hear from the "crowd"
If they had a friend or family member out there and visited them every Friday and Saturday, they would see all the "kids" in there. It doesn't take a whole lot in Idaho to get put in to prison.
Whats going on with half-way house and mansfield?
I heard at the meeting Vista Neighborhood put on and in the newspaper just before that he was a changed man and he was going to be a good neighbor. I guess someone made a suggestion about all his tenant smoking outside at once made neighbors nerves and it was mention about curving the number outside but, that was shot down as it was against Fair Housing and convicted felons had rights. Thats a joke. I am a Landlord and I control where smoking happiens by my tenants. Maybe as a good neighbor they should smoke inside. Has there been more houses go in? Have the Neighbors been notified in advance?
Half-way Houses
I hope more of them go in. These people need a place to live and start their lives over. The ex-cons in these houses are not the ones you have to worry about. They are on felony parole and being watched. They have a lot of rules they have to live by that make them safer to live by than the house down the street that is cooking meth, but you just don't know it. I'm still wondering about "good time".
Yes, there is need for these, but not at the neighbors property
value or "peace" of mind. My question was still not answered. Has any new hope homes gone in and was the neighborhood notified in advance as Dennis promised at the meeting? If any one knows out there, let us know. Kimrayline, sounds like you have been personally touch by the drug situation also. I'm sorry for your situation! It sucks to be involved when you try to be a law abiding person.
Personally Touched
Not by the drug situation, but the judicial system. It amazes me that the Judges are all over the board when sentencing. How can they give a 22 year-old a life sentence for a first felony and others get 5 years for the same offence, and not the first felony? We need better guidelines on what the judges can give... zero to life is ridiculous. Our attorney said "let's hope she is in a good mood" the morning of the sentencing. What's with that????? I am a law abiding citizen, along with my entire family. This doesn't define us. Thanks for your comments Lookingglass. I'm not sure how many new hope homes are going in or if the neighbors are being notified... Anybody out there know?
What were you sentenced for, anyway?
See, I KNEW there was an inward angle on this. Did you feel OUR forums were somehow more qualified to tell you?
ANGLE????
I'm not the in-mate. I'm just trying to get some information on "good time". I thought someone on YOUR forums would have ideas. Sorry to intrude!
Oh, no problem...you exited at the wrong router!
Wikipedia is one portal down and to routers to the right!
Isn't this Voices.Idahostatesman.com
or just certain voices can be heard?
I've learned from Usenet...
it's not a good idea to "help" kids by doing their assignments for them. I'm sorry you haven't gathered that and you still haven't answered why you think these forums should be the place to ask.
Most of us don't hear voices, I'd gather.
Thank you for writing.
How many people ever come out of prison rehabilitated?
Does prison really accomplish rehabilitaion? It's rediculous to put nonviolent drug offenders in prison, locked up with violent criminals, & expect them to come back into society after two, three, or five years, rehabilitated. They get out & can't get a job, go back to dealing drugs to survive. If we caught all the people committing the same crimes we have all these people locked up for, it would be cheaper to put bars around the innocent people & let the criminals run the streets. Criminals already have DC.
Look at Enron, Ken Lay. How many people were ripped off in that scam? Years after Kennyboy, {as his buddy Dubya called him,} who ran free & died before jail time, no doubt because he contributed to Bush's campaign, thousands of people never get justice. Kennyboy's family kept millions of $ & all the people who lost due to the Enron crime were out of luck. Did the justice system get the job done? How is it a criminal is hanging out with the president?
Why would we even call this justice? How do we lock all these small time criminals up
while all the real criminals are running the country? The American people have taken on the same policies, lie to make money, & do as our representatives do. It's simple, can't beat them, join them, do as they do. You have a better chance of making it in life through crime than honest, every day hard work. Can't get a job that pays a living wage, illegal immigrants promoted by our representatives have them all. That is the lie America has become. If you get caught in small time crime, you're weeded out, sent to prison, & labeled. If you don't get in the real game, politics, or corporate, just get caught up in petty crime like DUIs, & drug dealing you do hard time. Get caught in white collar crime, do a few months in a resort, make connections, & get back in the money game.
What percentage of criminals are actually caught? What percentage are put in jail? $$$ determines who goes to jail in many cases. If you have millions of $ you can buy your way out, with good lawyers or through a crooked judcial system. I know a judge in Nebraska who wrote bad checks, floating them from one bank to another for years, a county attorney who was into drugs, cocaine, protecting his dealer for years, guards, other corrections employees who were into drugs, & I could go on. The White House, the president has US in war killing thousands of people, Congress & the Senate full of crooks & they all lie in our name, using our money while they make money in who knows how many crooked deals.
How do our representatives get out of jail free? It's all about the $, connections, who they know. It's a simple game, when someone screws up, they're sacrificed so the rest can go on. America has become the best lie going. All the people in US prisons are just for show, never rehabilitate, never solve the drug problem, never solve drunk driving, over 17,000 Americans die in alcohol related auto accident every year. How many years have we had a war on drugs? Like alcohol, people, society want drugs but government has to draw the line somewhere. They busted the mob out of alcohol & now government makes the money. Can't very well do the same with drugs so they keep locking people up. Do the big dealers go away? Does the problem go away? Prison isn't solving that little problem, only making it worse. Will crime go down while the economy is crapped out?
Prison is just a band aid fix for drugs & the war on drugs. Illegal imigration promoted by our representatives in return for cheap labor has brough crime, gangs, drugs & we pay for it in lost wages, prison, & more. That's representation? We all know what good band aid fixes do. Hide 1,000,000 people behind bars & the problem doesn't go away, 2,000,000 more people start using drugs replacing the 1,000,000 you locked up. We all know what government is all about, $$$ at taxpayer expense.
How many inmates are locked up for drug & alcohol related offenses? We promote alcohol, alcohol related corporations buy our representation, get tax cuts in return, people support business, bars, & community throught spending/taxes on alcohol. Drink one too many on three occasions, drive, & we have another resident to support. No longer a productive member of society because they supported society, possibly on three drinks too many in a lifetime of drinking to support business contributing to our representation? There are millions of Americans driving everyday over the leagl limit who never get caught! Some do it everyday or every weekend.
If we want to solve the problem we have to put it to our reprentation with the cold hard truth. They are the crooks driving the corrections machine which is costing US billions of $! Even corrections business contribute to polticians. Idaho Gov. Otter is taking money from these guys while promoting prisons? Otter has had a DUI, he's a drunk wanna be Texas Ranger. Fix the problems, quit adding to them with band aid fixes that don't work like electing fools who won't do their job. They just take money to promote their careers. Deal with the drug problem, deal with the alcohol. Do the job we pay you for you dead beat lying crooked as a dog's hind leg politicians! Quit taking money from corporations making billions of $ while locking up people who support those corporations through spending on alcohol while supporting society representatives promote through alcohol & drugs! Let's not forget over the counter drugs. How many drug companies have politicians & doctors in their pockets? Full financial disclosure by all our representatives will show who have $ invested in drug companies. How many kids get started on drugs out of their parents medicine cabinet after watching mom & dad mixing the same drugs & alcohol? It isn't rocket science. The real criminals are in DC & corporate unAmerica's pocket!
It's called government, it's our representation! The American people don't have the stones, would rather fall in line, & do as they're told by the problem they pay to represent US. America is the greatest lie ever lived. Look at the mess America is. If you can't see it you're just another alcoholic or drug freak in denial. Greates country in the world, that's a hoot. Keep telling the lie & preety soon you believe it yourself. A democracy junkie killing in Bush's war mentality. It's really kind of funny. We promote death with democracy while telling the world how great democracy is & we're getting by with it. We're even believing it ourselves, we're locking up family, sending the young to war, killing, & breaking the world while blaming communism & terrorist. This is great.
All so the rich can get richer, suckers. That ought to get somebody going.
