Former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore has made the Detroit Lions' initial 53-man roster, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The team still could make some changes as it looks at which players were cut by other teams.
I'll try to post some more later. And we'll have a full story in Saturday's paper.
Other roster news:
CB Brandyn Thompson was cut by the Redskins.
TE Tommy Gallarda (Falcons) and S George Iloka (Bengals) made the 53-man rosters. Iloka was a fifth-round draft pick in 2012.

DETROIT — At least eight freshman are expected to contribute on offense and defense for the Boise State football team in tonight’s season opener at No. 13 Michigan State.
Here’s who you can expect to see:
— WR Troy Ware: He has grayshirted and redshirted, giving him more physical maturity and knowledge than your typical freshman. He has great hands and stepped up in fall camp. He’s a backup, but should get some chances the way the Broncos rotate receivers.

The Boise State football team expects to use five defensive ends in the season opener Friday night at Michigan State.
Their combined stats at Boise State: 18 games played, 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks.
That makes the group one of the Broncos’ biggest unknowns going into the season — and one of the biggest keys to the team’s success.
The ends replace NFL first-round pick Shea McClellin, third-round pick Tyrone Crawford and free agent signee Jarrell Root.

Boise State sophomore wide receiver Matt Miller feels faster. Apparently, he looks it, too.
“He’s gotten a lot faster,” fellow receiver Kirby Moore said. “That’s one thing that he really made an emphasis of, becoming more of a deep threat. And I’m sure we’ll see that through the season. … I’m sure he thought he could have had some bigger plays last year that slipped by and so I think he just wants to capitalize on those.”
Miller’s response: Thanks for noticing.

Boise State nickel Dextrell Simmons watched the senior class exit after the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas in December and it clicked.
He only had one remaining chance to make a difference with the Broncos. That realization changed his mindset going into his season year, he said.
Coaches and teammates noticed a difference this fall, when Simmons won the starting job. He transferred to Boise State in January 2011 from Blinn Junior College.

Boise State offensive coordinator Robert Prince said Monday that new starting quarterback Joe Southwick has improved his ability to play within the offense this year.
Southwick, a junior, was named the starter Sunday.
“He’s relying on his teammates a little more and not on his feet,” Prince said.
Southwick does bring more mobility to the position than his predecessor, Kellen Moore. But the preference is for him to only use his running ability as a last resort.

Junior Joe Southwick has been named the starting quarterback for the Boise State football team, the school announced Sunday.
Southwick (6-foot-1, 187 pounds) will make his first career start Friday night at Michigan State.
The Danville, Calif., product has been the primary backup for the past two seasons. He is 40-of-54 for 400 yards and two touchdowns with an interception in his career.
