Leighton Vander Esch, Salmon River: The Savages kept their unbeaten record intact with two wins last week. The junior scored 32 points with 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 76-46 victory against Horseshoe Bend. Vander Esch then scored 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 48-32 win over Deary to improve to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the 1A Long Pin Conference.


Destiny Slocum, Mountain View: The Mavericks remained in the hunt for the 5A Southern Idaho Conference's regular-season title with two victories last week. The freshman point guard led the Mavericks in scoring in both wins. Slocum scored 17 points with two assists to beat Centennial 53-36 and avenge a loss to the Patriots earlier in the season. She then added 24 points and two assists in a 63-43 win against Borah.


Kurtis Loftis, Kuna: The junior earned his first tournament win of the season by claiming the 145-pound title at the Tiger-Grizz Invitational at Skyline High. Loftis beat top-seeded Braxton Jensen of Pocatello in the championship match with a 6-4 decision to improve to 34-6. Kuna also finished second as a team with 261.5 points behind Box Elder of Utah (279).
