UPDATED — Quick hits: Ichiban, Baguette Deli have closed

Update 2: Based on permit listings in the Dec. 18 edition of Business Insider, it looks like Noodles & Company -- a chain with somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 restaurants -- will be going in where Ichiban used to be.

--

Update: In other news, Chipotle Mexican Grill will become the newest tenant at The Village at Meridian, which is on the northeast corner of Fairview Avenue and Eagle Road. The location hopes to open by April.

--

Baguette Deli, a Vietnamese sandwich shop at 276 N. 8th St. in Downtown Boise, has closed.

The eatery's other location, 5204 W. Franklin Road, remains open.

Also, Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar, 1233 Broadway Ave., recently closed. There appears to be some construction happening in there, so maybe something new and cool will take its place.

With Angell's closing at the end of the month, it sort of begs the question: Will Boise be left with nothing but chain restaurants in the not-so-distant future?

Chain restaurants

I dislike chain restaurants. That being said, I never tried the two places that just closed.

Baguette Deli was nice

It was a really good alternative to a slice of pizza at lunchtime...

If they had chicken pho in

If they had chicken pho in addition to beef, they would have had this repeat customer.

Ichiban was just like the

Ichiban was just like the other hibachi restaurants in town. No better, no worse.

AUGHHHH!!!

We will be cursed to KenTacoHuts unless we do something about this... vote with your wallets, folks! Support local eateries, or one day they will be gone.

Still lots of local places.

Make sure to support them. What's going on at the Stage Coach? They haven't been selling liquor, beer or wine for over a week.

I would guess they had their

I would guess they had their license pulled. I haven't seen anything on them being suspended but if they aren't selling booze then that's probably what happened.

I still think that the wage scale .............

................ in Idaho leaves little for what may pass as anything that's not from the dollar menu .

If you scrape a dollar together you're six cents shy?

I MISS my Wendy's since the freezer burned the joint down!

Still tons of locally owned

There's a ton of locally owned restaurants: Le Coq Rouge, Bardenay Restaurant & Distillery, Casanova Pizzeria, Guido's Original New York, Goldy's Breakfast Bistro, Cafe Vicino, Flying Pie, Fork, Chandlers, Cottonwood Grille, le Cafe de Paris, Gernika, Leku Ona, Tony's Pizzeria Teatro, . . .

Go to them!

Love

Baguette Deli on Franklin.

Anybody know

What are those eggroll looking things that are on the counter near the register. They're prepackaged in 3's with some sauce.

Spring rolls

If I remember correctly they ones they sell have noodles, some veggies, cilantro, and shrimp. A nice light choice.

Thanks

I thought spring rolls were fried and served with lettuce to wrap them in. I'll have to try them next time because I wasn't thrilled with the BBQ pork sandwich.

Great--yet another Mexican

style restaurant. How many does this make? Other than way too many!

Boiseans Don't Know Food

Sorry, with all due respect to all my friends and acquaintances here, when it comes to food, Boiseans don't know good from bad. We have had a lot of decent or better independent restaurants come and go in the 20 years I've been here. Remember B.B. Strands? Anyway, Baguette was underpriced and just the other day my wife and I ate there and wondered how they stayed open serving up the kind of good food they did at those prices. I guess I got my answer. But, the place never had that many customers. You'd see tons of folks eating greasy Rueben sandwiches at Bitter Creek Alehouse, then see 3 people eating at Baguette. Go figure. Make way for another lousy chain, I'll bet.

My home cooking isn't going out of biz till I DO...

Sorry, Bro

But there are plenty of people here that know good food. The 'Creek blows away Baguette Deli when it comes to good food. That's why they're still in business and Baguette isn't, and why you didn't see many people eating there. It just wasn't very good. I tried it three times, and each time it was a big waste of money.
Yes, lots of restaurants come and go- it's just the nature of the beast. But to insult Boiseans and say we don't know good food? You're sadly mistaken.

What a bummer! Love baguette deli

I loved that place and was looking forward to pho soup bowls this winter.

No Place For Dinner

Angels is a Boise institution, just like the Royal and so many others were back in the day. Just like Albertsons was. Just like Morrison Knudson was. Just like so many parts of the Boise experience used to be. Those places and the people who ran them are what make great conversations with your grandchild. It's nice to have the memories, but times change.

WHAT!

I *loved* Baguette and being able to get a banh mi. Found excuses to be in Boise at lunchtime so I could go there. I am *way* bummed.

Noodles & Co?

Isn't that the same chain going into the downscale "The Village at Meridian" ? What a sad state of affairs in the local restaurant world.

I really don't care about that compared to...

the fact that Honk's is going out of business as we speak in the West Park Plaza (any others?) and I'm tired of caring about if I'll be able to live in my rental or get nedical care or pay bills for the umpeenth dozen time in five years.

You guys aren't grasping that the Ty-D-Bol man is taking over and if you don't shack up with the old lady that still has gas and propane in the RV it may get cold someday.

Forget guns. You've ignored your lives for too long. The Tea People have no clue and no means to actually help you and you have to deal with the crap that you made.

Plain and simple. Bag it and keep going.

Stage Coach Inn

Yes, indeed, it appears that they had their liquor license confiscated by the Idaho State Tax Commission. ISTC says on its web site (http://istcsales.idaho.gov/listing.cfm?wl=0020) that it will be auctioned for a minimum of $75,000 to settle unpaid taxes. ISTC is funny that way about wanting the taxes paid.

No dues, NO BOOZE, you LOSE.
