Idaho Reports: Statesman columnist Dan Popkey talks about Sen. Mike Crapo's arrest and guilty plea to DUI

After Idaho Republican Sen. Mike Crapo pleaded guilty to driving after drinking several vodka tonics, he held a telephone question and answer call with select Idaho Reporters. The Statesman's Dan Popkey was among them.

On the first Idaho Reports of the season, Dan was a member of the pundits table looking ahead to the session, but I asked him about the conversation with Crapo:

Too close

Seems that the Statesman writers are to close to the elected officials to be unbiased.

They ARE in the capital city, would seem like a good arrangement

Please, the conspiracy thing is making the deads' eyes roll...oh, no, can't they stop at John Kennedy?

Apple users, run the Gig of RAM your PC needs to have and read the dumb tech white papers, wrinkle your forehead and buy more food and toilet paper with the difference. The internet is a piece of junk anyway and your cats know this.

Soon, this will be a non-story.

Its ok if people drink or smoke or whatever.

Just in his position the driving was the bad part. He pleaded guilty and just needs to tell others that he has a few drinks. Not a big deal.

Crapo

In Idaho, it is. Remember his religion.

Not even that...

I haven't heard from any flipped LDS yet. Seems like some know what forgiveness is about, especially to the contrite.

It is a big deal in Idaho

It is a big deal in Idaho because he has spouted his personal beliefs and ethics based on his long standing in his beliefs. Therein is the hypocrisy. His word is suspect. Copping out with using stress is bull whacky. If he can't cope with the stress he needs to remove himself from representing Idahoans. Also keep in mind his drinking began over a year ago supposedly. What was the stress then? Cop out plain and simple.

rose4u and ronk....you two are making a mountain out of a

molehill.

If he pleaded not guilty and made excuses, then I agree.

He is one of many that drink on Capital Hill. What we need is term limits in all 50 states. Sometimes our senators can be doing the same stuff for too long.
