Boise State sophomore Derrick Marks scored a career-high 24 points but No. 15 Michigan State held off the Broncos 74-70 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing on Tuesday night.
The Broncos led 62-60 with less than five minutes remaining, but could not hold off the Spartans at home. Keith Appling scored back-to-back baskets to give Michigan State a 66-62 lead with 3:26 left.
The Broncos pulled within two points at 70-68, but could get no closer.
"Our guys are not satisfied at all," Boise State coach Leon Rice said on the KBOI postgame radio show. "They are not satisfied."
Marks fouled out with 2:37 remaining in the game. Freshman Mikey Thompson scored a season-high 14 points.
Appling led the Spartans with 22 points.
Boise State led by as many as nine in the first half before Michigan State ended the first half on a 25-10 run. The Spartans led 38-32 at the break.
The Broncos fought back and took the lead midway through the second half on four straight free throws by Marks. The Spartans were tagged with two technical fouls, one for an elbow and the other on coach Tom Izzo.
Boise State (3-1) returns home Saturday for a game against UC-Santa Barbara.
