Frank Tanabe, the 93-year-old World War II veteran who served his country one last time by voting from his hospital bed, died Wednesday morning.
Nic Kawaguchi e-mailed me Wednesday afternoon to tell me that his
Grandpa passed away this morning with Kawaguchi’s mother, Barbara Tanabe by his side.
“It was peaceful and he was honored to have been called a Patriot and a real American in his final days,” Kawaguchi wrote.
You may have read my story about Tanabe, who was also a former resident of the Minidoka Relocation Center near Jerome.

Vote doesn't count
Too bad. Since he passed before Election Day, his vote is invalidated. (If they took the time to locate and cull his ballot, anyway.)
Although I understand in Chicago, you can vote for 20 years following your official date of death.
:-O
Condolences to Soldier Tanabe's family.
??
Was this about voter fraud bboy? Or about an American who served his country honorably during WWII and wanted to make sure he got his vote in one last time. Are you suggesting that he shouldn't have voted because he was on his death bed? What if he had lived beyond Nov. 6? Your post was idiotic and insulting to an American hero. Your parents should consider restricting your internet privileges for a few days.

Thanks for your respectful comment, wdginak. I thought it was awesome that Mr. Tanabe voted from his bed of affliction! My comment was mostly based on an earlier story that said his vote would only count - as do ALL early-voting ballots - if the voter was still alive on Election Day.
Indeed, I added another somewhat-sarcastic comment about Chicago's fine tradition of letting the deceased voters continue to be active in civics!
No insult was ever intended to Mr. Tanabe or any other legitimate voter. So your righteous indignation is misplaced, IMO.
Have a great day!

I see the Democrats out in the cemetery gathering signatures all the time
One more

Really?
We can' t just recognize this hero and his passing without the snarky political comments? Your lack of respect is sad.
RIP, Sir.
RIP to a hero
Your service, despite what was done to you, is so respected. RIP.
