When you’re not watching Bronco football players being flagged for doing the invisible horse dance in the end zone against Fresno State:
1. SEE A THRILLER
Local movie used to mean unwatchable movie. Not anymore. Filmed in Boise, "3 of a Kind" is an award-winning psychological thriller that confronts domestic violence. Watching the trailer, you get the feeling Boiseans may be cheering at the screen during the Idaho premiere. The showing at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Egyptian Theatre is part of a planned 17-city tour with proceeds going to local domestic violence shelters. Actress Margot Kidder, who plays Claire, says, " '3 of a Kind' is an extraordinary film, and to shoot it in Boise was a wonderful experience."
3. PUCK UP
New coach. New season. Same opportunity to cheer on adrenaline-packed hockey in the heart of Downtown Boise. The Idaho Steelheads will welcome the Utah Grizzlies for a Friday-night visit in the home opener at CenturyLink Arena. Tickets to tonight’s melee are here.
4. SNOOP ON ARTISTS
It’s BOSCO weekend, which means you can tour the inside of local artists’ studios Saturday and Sunday and watch them work. Participants range from Carl Rowe — that’s his studio below — to Sue Latta and Amber Conger. Get a tour map and more information here.
5. FIDDLE WITH YOUR SCHEDULE
Celtic fiddle whiz Natalie MacMaster rolls into the Nampa Civic Center on Saturday night. She’s the real deal — we’re talking Carnegie Hall here — but I like this intimate video shot with Bela Fleck in an informal venue.
