First District GOP Rep. Raul Labrador has landed a very big fish as a fundraiser for his re-election bid against Democrat Jimmy Farris.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia is seen by many, particularly among the large freshman class that includes Labrador, as a successor, or even challenger to House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio. Boehner is close to Idaho's other congressman, 2nd District GOP Rep. Mike Simpson.
Labrador's event includes a roundtable, reception and photo op. Prices are $100 per person for a photo only; $250 for a photo and the reception; and $1,000 for the roundtable, with both photo and reception. Political action committees must pay $2,500.
Meanwhile, Farris has engaged fundraising help from retiring Democratic Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the former chairman of the House Commmittee on Financial Services and coauthor of the Dodd-Frank financial regulation law. Frank has been in Congress 22 years and was the first member of Congress to voluntarily come out as gay, in 1987.
In an email from Farris, Frank urges contributors to help raise $15,000 for Farris by Thursday. (Farris sent his email Wednesday, but I overlooked it in a crush of work).
Writes Frank: "We have to fight back against the Tea Partiers and their wealthy backers, which is why I volunteered to help Jimmy, who is one of their targets, because of his commitment to the values we believe in, and that they have never been so seriously challenged as they are this year."
Below are the texts of both fundraising appeals:

In case you missed it, Congressman Barney Frank sent a strong message on Monday to Idaho voters against the onslaught of Tea Party attacks and in support of Jimmy Farris. Please see Congressman Frank's message below and please click here to contribute to Jimmy Farris for Congress TODAY before tomorrow's budget deadline!
Two very negative factors threaten to distort American politics in a damaging way this year.
The Tea Party extremists have essentially taken over the Republican Party, and the right wing majority on the Supreme Court has guaranteed that these extremists will have virtually unlimited fat cat money being spent on their behalf.
Since their substantive record is indefensible, they have gone on the attack, and Democratic candidates face a barrage of twisted, demagogic attacks.
I have set a goal to help JIMMY FARRIS raise $15,000 in urgent resources before Jimmy's budget deadline on Thursday.
Contribute now to help JIMMY FARRIS before Thursday's deadline.
We have to fight back against the Tea Partiers and their wealthy backers, which is why I volunteered to help Jimmy, who is one of their targets, because of his commitment to the values we believe in, and that they have never been so seriously challenged as they are this year.
Contribute now before Thursday’s rapid response deadline.
Congressman Barney Frank
In the words of Congressman Frank, onward!
