1. PARTY WITH YOUR BIKE
It’s Tour De Fat weekend, where dressing like a cornball, drinking beer and riding your bike go hand in hand. Pre-funk at the Pre-Fat Block Party today with Boise band Finn Riggins and more. Then join the morning Tour De Fat parade Saturday and party into the afternoon with more bands.
2. CHECK OUT THE FAIR
The first and last days of the Western Idaho Fair are the least crowded, according to fair boss Bob Batista, so if you’re hoping to avoid massive crowds, well, today IS opening day. You have until Aug. 26 to check out the party. We’ve put together a guide to all the fun — including Tuesday's free concert from the ingenious Weird Al Yankovic.
3. HEAR SOME MUSIC SATURDAY
Boise Philharmonic music director Robert Franz is taking the classical crew outdoors for a casual evening, ”Picnic at the Pops,” at the Eagle River Pavilion. Or head Downtown, where Americana band The Jackalope Saints will perform at the intimate, bustling Pengilly’s Saloon. Also, local rockers Revolt Revolt will celebrate the release of a new album at Neurolux. Or get a jump on the action tonight and actually BE revolted at Neurolux, when the graphic Torture King and his Hellzapoppin sideshow revue roll into town. (It's not music, but it's ... entertainment.)
4. FEED YOUR FOODIE SIDE
Enjoy half a zillion wines from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. tonight on the Basque Block in Downtown Boise at the 15th annual WineFest. Or pop in to the Boise Co-op from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and celebrate oodles of noodles at Festa Italiana.
5. LAUGH A LITTLE
Political comedian Bill Maher performs Saturday night at the Morrison Center. Maher thinks his liberal fans in Idaho will be ready to party. Or check out up-and-comer Kyle Kinane, who headlines Sunday night at Liquid Laughs.
