Fruitland High's Martarano to play in All-America baseball game

Fruitland High senior Joey Martarano was chosen to play in the 2012 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game.

The game features 36 of the best high school players in the country competing in an American vs. National team matchup at 11:30 a.m. MST on Aug. 18 at Wrigley Field. The MLB Network will air the game live.

Martarano is a three-sport star for the Grizzlies, competing in football, basketball and baseball. He has already committed to play football at Boise State, but is generating buzz as a potential first-round baseball draft pick in 2013.

"Strong multi-sport athletes have been a staple in the Under Armour All-America Game and this year Joey brings his All-State football talent to the game,” said Steve Bernhardt, Chairman of the Under Armour All-America Game Selection Committee and Executive VP of Baseball Operations at Baseball Factory. "On the baseball field he's a strong third baseman with legitimate power at the plate. We look forward to watching Joey's power on display at Wrigley Field."

Martarano is a first-team All-Idaho quarterback/linebacker, and has led the Grizzlies to state titles in all three sports.

Seven players who participated in last year's Under Armour All-America Game were recently selected in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft, including the No. 2 overall pick — outfielder Byron Buxton.
