Democrat Berch picks up GOP Mayor Mitchell's endorsement in Idaho's District 15

Steve Berch
, seeking the open seat held for 20 years by retiring GOP lawmaker Max Black, has landed the endorsement of Star Mayor Nate Mitchell.

Though city offices are non-partisan in Idaho, Mitchell ran for the Legislature as a Republican in 2010, losing to now-Rep. Reed DeMordaunt, R-Star.

Said Mitchell in a statement released by Berch: "Steve Berch is an effective leader who reaches
out to others to understand their perspective in order to make good decisions. I am a life-
long Republican and I encourage all Republicans, Independents and Democrats alike to elect
Steve Berch to be their Representative in the Idaho Legislature."

Berch also announced endorsements from Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, who served in the Legislature as a Democrat, and Ada County Highway District Commissioner John Franden, a former development official at Boise State.

Berch faces Republican Mark Patterson in November.

Berch's news release follows:

More Republican, Democrat and Independent leaders endorse Steve Berch

Opponent’s endorsement from tax-evading Rep. Phil Hart stands in sharp contrast

Boise, Idaho –Steve Berch is honored to announce endorsements from three more respected
community leaders supporting his campaign for House Seat 15B in West Boise. New
endorsements from Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, Star Mayor Nate Mitchell and ACHD
Commissioner John Franden add to the growing list of bipartisan and non-partisan
endorsements Berch has already received from noted business and community leaders, which
are posted on his campaign website, www.berch4idaho.com:

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter endorsement: “Steve Berch is a smart, capable person with the
tenacity and dedication to public service that will benefit everyone in West Boise. He works
well with people from all backgrounds and understands the unique issues facing citizens in
District 15. I support Steve and urge you to vote to send him to the Idaho Legislature in
November.”

Star Mayor Nate Mitchell endorsement: "Steve Berch is an effective leader who reaches
out to others to understand their perspective in order to make good decisions. I am a life-
long Republican and I encourage all Republicans, Independents and Democrats alike to elect
Steve Berch to be their Representative in the Idaho Legislature."

ACHD Commissioner John Franden endorsement: "Over the years I have appreciated Steve
Berch's ability to work with neighborhoods and the Ada County Highway District in a
positive, collaborative manner to find solutions that work best for everyone involved. His
ability to listen and bring people together will serve his constituents well when representing
them in the Idaho Legislature. I encourage the voters in District 15 to vote for Steve Berch
in November."

In contrast, Berch’s opponent Mark Patterson was endorsed in 2010 by Rep. Phil Hart, the
northern Idaho legislator who refuses to pay his taxes and stole timber from public lands for his
personal use. In May, 2012 Patterson aggressively supported Rep. Hart during an interview with
the Idaho Statesman. Phil Hart’s endorsement is still posted on Patterson’s Facebook page.

Berch added, “This is just one of many sharp contrasts between my opponent and me. I will
continue knocking on doors throughout West Boise to discuss the clear choice voters will have
on Election Day.”
