Boise soccer team advances to Far West semifinals

Boise Nationals U-17 Premier beat Nevada’s LVSA 95 Red 2-1 in Friday’s quarterfinals of the Far West Regionals in Phoenix.

Borah High senior-to-be Jacob Szuch scored both goals for the Nationals on penalty kicks. Szuch, who has verbally committed to play for Oregon State, scored in the 25th and 85th minutes.

Boise takes on Arizona’s Sereno 95 White at 9 a.m. MDT on Saturday for a spot in the championship game. The two teams met twice last season, playing to a 1-1 draw both times.

“You don’t get an easy game at this stage of the tournament, but we feel like we have a winnable game tomorrow,” Boise Nationals technical director Coe Michaelson said.

The three other Treasure Valley teams to advance from pool play lost their quarterfinal games Friday. The Boise Nationals U-19 and U-14 boys each lost 1-0, while the SuperNova U-17 girls fell 2-1.
