The day of the mother is just around the corner. Here's a roundup of some sales and events (keep an eye on this post for updates) and gifts you can buy locally.
Dana Oland gave us a slew of places for the time-honored Mother's Day brunch and less-time-honored local wine tasting. If you're brunching, make reservations; it's the busiest brunch day of the year, and you don't want to make Mom wait for two hours.
Is your Ma up for a visual treat? Take her on a helicopter tour. You might wanna feel that one out first, though. Something tells me that "Surprise! Let's test your fear of heights!" won't be a gift slam-dunk for everyone.

As Dana wrote, Sawtooth Winery is doing its 23rd annual Mother's Day tasting in Nampa.
But there's a bonus! Some vendors from Indie Made will be at the Sawtooth event, selling quirky handmade gifts. Paper flower bouquets made by Sailing Umbrella will be on sale there (full disclosure: the artist is a friend).
Indie Made, the Downtown artist collaborative, is packed with classic and eclectic gift possibilities.
On Sunday, you can take Mom to the first day of this year's East End Market at Bown Crossing. Click here for details.
Shops at the mall are having sales. Among them:
- Romy's clothing store will give away $10 gift cards to the first five mothers to come in Sunday. They'll also have a drawing Sunday for a $50 gift card.
- A couple dollars off a $25 purchase at See's Candies.
- Free frame with purchase of a Mother's Day pendant at Fred Meyer Jewelers.
- A "queen for a day" sale at Banana Republic: get 40 percent off one full-priced item Saturday.
