Getting ready for the weekend

Image It's a weekend for surging rivers. Some of the predictions from the National Weather Service show the Main Payette River at about 13,000 cfs; the Lower Salmon at 58,000 cfs; Clearwater at about 72,000 cfs and the South Fork of the Payette River at about 6,500 cfs at Staircase Rapids. Wow!

So if you're going to float a river this weekend, you'd better have good big-water boating skills. See Idaho Outdoors' river report in the Idaho Statesman today.


The Idaho Fish and Game will stock about 113,000 trout in waters from Bull Trout Lake to Sagehen Reservoir in May. Get a handle on your favorite waters in Idaho Outdoors today.


Idaho Power says the water will still be turned off at McCormick Park in Hells Canyon until Monday, April 30. Crews are testing water after working on an aging well. The park is located on Oxbow Reservoir.

Campers can get water and use facilities at Woodhead Park on Brownlee Reservoir. Portable outhouses are available at McCormick.


The Idaho Whitewater Association's used equipment swap starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at Idaho River Sports, 3100 W. Pleasanton Ave. (near the Greenbelt at Quinn's Pond.

You can drop off gear for sale from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday.
IWA takes 15 percent commission as its fundraising for boating projects and education.
