The Big East's Western Division is shaping up to be Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, SMU, Memphis and ... Temple — according to reports from Philadelphia.
All six are new additions to the Big East. Temple will join in July with the other five joining in time for the 2013 football season.
"It could play that way, which is fine," Temple coach Steve Addazio told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We don't really know that. But I've heard those things."
Added Addazio: "Boise is a good team. The other teams are the same teams we are. You have to get in a plane and travel. So you know, you might have to travel 40 more minutes than you did the other. But you are still going to get on that plane and fly."
The Big East's Eastern Division would consist of conference holdovers Louisville, Cincinnati, Connecticut Rutgers and South Florida and newcomer Central Florida.
The division alignment would likely hold just for the first two years of Boise State's Big East tenure. Navy joins the league in 2015, likely causing some shifts in divisions. And that's assuming the league can hold together.
• Division names: I saw this suggestion from @KevinOnCFB on Twitter and I really like it. He suggested naming the Big East divisions — Colonial (for the East) and Frontier (for the West).
