RAW: Natural Born Artists, a national organization that supports and showcase the work of independent artists, just started operating in Boise. It seeks to do for fashion designers, performers, filmmakers, photographer, makeup artists, musicians and visual artists what Etsy does for craft artisans.
The group organizes monthly multimedia showcases on the third Thursday of the month at different locations around Boise. The jury process will be overseen by Boise RAW coordinator Amy Johnson Myers.
The first one will be May 17 at a location still to be determined. Each artist will receive a photo and video shoot to post on RAWartists.org. To apply, submit a short bio, photos of your work and a link to your website or Facebook page to RAWartists.org/Boise by April 20.
Los Angeles fashion designer Heidi Luerra created RAW out of frustration because it was so difficult to get her work seen. She drew together other young creatives and produced the first RAWartist show three years ago. She also collaborated with a web designer to create an online platform for artists.
The groups mission is to provide independent artists within the first 10 years of their career with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity. RAW is in more than 30 cities, currently.
