Idaho candidates: Richardson files for state Senate; two incumbents will step aside

The biggest headlines from today’s candidate filings were, actually, nonfilings.

Rep. Brian Cronin, D-Boise, will not seek a third term. Same for Sen. Melinda Smyser, R-Parma.

In other news:

• Former House Education Committee Chairman and Ada County Commissioner Fred Tilman is looking to return to the Legislature.

Tilman, of Meridian, filed today for a House seat in legislative District 22, joining what is now a three-person GOP primary.

Tilman served 13 years in the House before stepping down in 2003 to join the Ada County commission. He was on the commission through 2010, but lost to Vern Bisterfeldt in the May 2010 GOP primary.

• Former U.S. attorney Betty Richardson made it official. The Boise Democrat will run for Idaho Senate in District 15.

• Middleton Republican Thomas Munds is back on the candidate list, filing today to challenge incumbent Sen. Patti Anne Lodge, R-Caldwell. Munds had filed Friday, but his name was pulled from the secretary of state’s office list that afternoon.

• Boise Democrat Steve Berch will run for a House seat in legislative District 15. He was an unsuccessful House candidate in 2010.

• Garden City Democrat Jeff Stephenson withdrew from a House race in District 16, leaving, for the time being, Democrat and Greater Boise Auditorium District board member Hy Kloc unopposed.

Hey Kevin

Do you think you can get a permanent link to the new redistricting map on the sidebar. I'm having a hard time even finding my district let alone follow the "Southwest Idaho candidate big board, with today’s filings in bold"

The Secretary of State's websites such as idahovotes.gov are not current. You might want to give them a call.
