Idaho candidates: Denney, McKenzie file for re-election

House Speaker Lawerence Denney, a Midvale Republican who has been at the heart of a tumultous fight over redistricting, will seek a ninth term in office.

And under the redistricting map, Denney could have a clear path through the GOP primary. An earlier version of the map — approved by the bipartisan commission, including Denney's appointee, former state Rep. Dolores Crow — could have placed Denney in a district with four other House GOP incumbents.

In other Tuesday afternoon filings:

• Sen. Curt McKenzie, R-Nampa, will seek a sixth term in office. McKenzie is no stranger to controversy this session; he chaired the Senate State Affairs Committee, which has drawn heat for refusing to introduce the gay-rights "Add the Words" bill.

• Greater Boise Auditorium District board member Hy Kloc will run as a Democrat for a House seat in Boise's District 16. No surprise here. As regular readers of this blog know, Kloc telegraphed his intentions last year ... in a family holiday note.

• Rep. Grant Burgoyne, D-Boise, will seek a third term, also in District 16.

• Several repeat candidates re-emerged. Leif Skyving, a Caldwell Democrat and school board member, will run again for state Senate. Nampa Democrat Melissa Sue Robinson, a frequent candidate for city and legislative office, will run for state Senate. James Holtzclaw, a repeat candidate for Meridian city office, will run for a House seat as a Republican.

Denny

No wonder Denny wanted to fire Crow--he would have had to actually run for office. Denny needs to go--he is a power-hungry legislator who runs a dictatorship in the House.
