The Skyview High boys basketball team looks to add to its rich history when it takes on Kuna in the 4A District Three championship game at 8 p.m. Thursday at Middleton High.
The Hawks (15-7) are appearing in their 11th district championship game and chasing their sixth district title, but unlike past seasons, the third-seeded Hawks aren’t the favorites in this contest.
Skyview lost both meetings against the No. 2 Kavemen (15-7) this season, falling 50-35 on Dec. 8 and 67-44 on Jan. 19.
Both teams have already secured spots in next week’s state tournament. The winner of Thursday’s game will play the District Six runner-up in the first round at state, while the loser draws District One-Two champion Moscow (12-10).
It will be Skyview’s eighth consecutive state appearance and the first for Kuna since 2006.
Can't make the 4A title game? The Idaho Statesman will provide quarter-by-quarter updates on the Varsity Extra blog.
2A District Three championship
Top-ranked Cole Valley Christian (20-1) plays New Plymouth (16-6) at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Vallivue High in Caldwell. Both teams are already headed to state, but this game will determine state seeding. Cole Valley won both regular-season games against New Plymouth by five points.
1A Division I District Three championship
Notus (18-3) upset No. 1 seed Liberty Charter in the semifinals to set up a championship matchup with Horseshoe Bend (14-5). Tipoff is 8 p.m. Thursday at Caldwell High. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. Both have already secured state berths.
