Boise High soccer player named Gatorade player of year

Bryson Pavel of Boise High was selected as the 2011-12 Gatorade Idaho Boys Soccer Player of the Year on Wednesday.

He is the sixth Gatorade boys player of the year to be chosen from Boise High.

The 6-foot, 165-pound senior defender led the Braves to a 19-1 record and the 5A state championship in October. Pavel scored 10 goals with six assists from his central defender position, leading a unit that allowed just 13 goals and posted 13 shutouts. Pavel added two goals and an assist in Boise’s 3-0 win over Post Falls High in the state semifinals.

“Many players in our game excel in a particular position, they just fit an area, but Bryson Pavel is a true exception,” said Timberline High coach Matt Billings in a press release. “He’s equally adept with either foot and equipped athletically for any facet of the game. He can play anywhere on the pitch.”

Pavel has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Seattle Pacific University beginning this fall.
