Carson White, New Plymouth: The 2011 2A state runner-up Pilgrims (16-6) secured a spot at the state tournament with two wins last week. White scored 26 points with 14 rebounds, five assists and five steals in a 60-49 first-round victory over Marsing. The 6-foot-3 senior guard then added 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals to help the Pilgrims upset defending state champion Melba 58-44 in the district semifinals. New Plymouth plays top-ranked Cole Valley Christian (20-1) at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Vallivue High for the district championship.


Taylor Simmons, Middleton: The Vikings won their third consecutive 4A state championship and finished the 2011-12 season 26-0 with three victories last week. Simmons led the Vikings in scoring in all three state tournament games. The senior guard had 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and one assist in a 40-31 first-round win over Madison. She then added 23 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal in a 56-46 semifinal victory against Wood River. Simmons capped her career at Middleton with 11 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds in a 51-35 victory over Rigby in the state championship game at the Idaho Center in Nampa.


Jace Johnson, Centennial: The Patriots won their third consecutive 5A District Three championship last week as seven Centennial wrestlers won district titles. Johnson, a state runner-up at 119 pounds in 2011, wrestled his way to the 120-pound championship. The senior edged Boise senior Andrew Rossow 3-1 in the championship final. The match was tied 1-1 with 10 seconds left, and Johnson used a single-leg takedown to earn the victory. Johnson (32-7) is the No. 1 seed at 120 pounds at the 5A state tournament according to
