Mitchel Vanderwiel, Cole Valley Christian: The Chargers wrapped up regular-season play in the 2A Western Idaho Conference with a record of 11-1 and 19-1 overall. Vanderwiel began the week by scoring 31 points with 10 assists to help his team avenge its lone loss with a 65-57 victory over McCall-Donnelly. Against the Vandals, the senior forward also had a pair of dunks, four rebounds and two assists. On Feb. 10, the Chargers earned a season sweep of defending state champion Melba as Vanderwiel chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four blocked shots and one steal in the 51-43 win.


Carson Pickett, Rocky Mountain: The Grizzlies earned their first state tournament berth in girls basketball last week to improve their record to 16-9 overall. The 5-foot-8 sophomore guard had one of the biggest games in any division this season when she dropped 34 points — including five 3-pointers — in a 66-51 victory against Capital in a loser-out game at the 5A District Three Tournament on Feb. 8. Pickett then added 13 points and four rebounds in Rocky Mountain's 60-48 win over Skyline in a state play-in game on Feb. 11.


Austin Schaffer, Columbia: The Wildcats' 195-pound junior has come on strong since returning from an MCL injury in late January. Last week, Schaffer finished up his 4A Southern Idaho Conference regular-season schedule with a record of 19-1 and he is currently the second-ranked wrestler at 195 pounds according to Schaffer has tournament wins this season at New Plymouth and Weiser.
