Idaho Falls-based Melaleuca gives Romney Super Pac $1 million

The company founded by Idaho Falls billionaire Frank VanderSloot gave Restore Our Future the money in four $250,000 chunks, from Melaleuca Inc. and affiliates exporting to Asia, Japan and Southeast Asia between July and December.

The Super Pac raised $17.9 million in the last six months of 2011. The news broke Tuesday night, after Romney's big win in the Florida GOP presidential primary.

VanderSloot is a national finance co-chairman for Romney and has been a backer of mostly Republican causes and candidates. He was a key supporter of the 2011 "Students Come First" laws authored by Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna. He has held Romney fund-raisers at his Idaho Falls ranch in both the 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

VanderSloot's spokesman, Damond Watkins, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Money always wins

Nice to have plenty of money when running for office. Money wins everytime

Government of the lobbyists,

Government of the lobbyists, by the lobbyists, for the lobbyists.

dang

That's a lot of money to be throwing in the toilet!

VanderSloot is also Mormon as is Luna

He fights for every corporate/ag subsidy he can get then donates a million to Romney. Theocratic hypocrite.

That million dollars could have gone a long way in helping Idaho schools.

And this is .......

a surprise, because??? This "businessman" is doing all he can to get GOP in the white house, and if its another morman then he's really happy. Yes the $$ would go a long ways to help Idaho in alot of areas and just look at how much the super pacs have dumped in Florida. If you added it all together, they could fund a small country in luxury! Why don't they put that $ to better use and let the voters elect the president??? I think the rules need to be changed to include a restriction on the amount a candidate can spend on the whole campaign.

candidate spending

A super pac is not the candidate spending money.

So under your rules a PAC can spend a billion dollars, the candidate's campaign spends a thousand dollars and it would be within your statement.

Think of the revenue generated by the PAC. If you produced campaign commercials you would LOVE PACS. If you were a direct-mail business you would see campaign years as a bonus- and that means you would have more money to buy a new kilt.

It's all jst money being recirculated. Just because it's not being circulated according to 'our wishes'...

YAWN

I'm sure you'll have no issue at the ballot box voting for President Oligarch and his BILLION dollar campaign.

You're such an idiot...

Hurray

Anything to defeat Obama is good....

This should depress you even more, then.

I'm thinking that....

...the "OUR" in Restore Our Future is not referring to the 99% of us.

He's a

Super Pac, man.

Snake Oil

From the snake oil company to the guy trying to sell snake oil. Both fakes. How appropriate!

corporations are people

this is due to the ridiculous supreme court ruling that a corporation is the same as a person

Yep, they overturned over a

Yep, they overturned over a 100 years of precedent. Where are the conservative blowhards who constantly hollar about "activist judges"?

activist judges are fine

as long as they are conservative...

only if it affects them

They are silent in this issue, since there are only activist judges if it is an issue that they don't agree with

Corporations are "people"

and America is a now a government of the "people", by the "people" and for the "people"

I'll believe corporations

I'll believe corporations are people as soon as a state executes one of them.

PAC Romney and Vandersloot/Melaleuca

Don't trust a mormon and NEVER trust a mormon business person or politician. They will steal you blind.

over the top

I'm not Mormon and I detest the Mormon faith, but this is way, WAY over the top.

I'm not even Mormon, but you

I'm not even Mormon, but you my dear, are a flippin bigot.

I live in Idaho Falls. Let

I live in Idaho Falls. Let me just say that the residents of Idaho Falls have been pushed aside by this man for some time now! Doesn't surprise me he would be doing Otter and Romney back flips. Big money talks, everyone knows that. Let me ask you all this, "Does your vote really matter in the end"? I don't think so anymore!

I hope so

I hereby vote for campaign finance reform. For our democracy to survive, we the people need to get the bribery out of our political system! Democracy is not based on bribery.

Oddly different reaction

from the left when it isn't Unions or Soros doing the contributing.

Did an Idaho union announce 1 million contribution? Who is this

Soros guy anyway...does he live in Idaho?

give what you can

Idaho teacher's union gave $145,000 to Stan Olson

I'm sure if they had a million they would have contributed that too.

Or do you want references about union PAC money on the national level since that is what the blog is about???

Watch Out for this One

I worked for this yo-yo. He only looks out for one thing. Himself. If it doesn't help his company or his ego he is against it. Why do you think he supported lunatic.

Watch out for this one

I worked for this yo-yo. He only watches out for one thing, Himself.

He sounds like the Koch

He sounds like the Koch brothers' Mini-Me.

You keep talking of these Koch brothers...

you never substantiate them or who they are.

To you they are a soundbite.

I'm all for dissention but I want to know who people are

What a

SUCKER!

Dumb!

Although politicians are a good "investment" (especially in Idaho), Romney will not hold the next presidential term.

Lincoln's birthday

is coming up, about time for Frankie to fly a bunch of Idaho GOP legislators to IF for another "celebration."

The irony in modern Republicans celebrating Lincoln, who

possibly fought harder for federalism than any president. Not to mention that whole southern switching of party affiliation in the 1960's when the Democrats became the party of civil rights, and the Republcans actively sought membership from those who opposed civil rights.

I was okay with Mormons for awhile. They were very moral or so I thought. Now all of this politics and it helps me see what they truly are. A bunch of men wanting to be God. They won't be to their surprise. They won't be Gods on their planet and not here on Earth. Vote out the Mormon politician.

LOL

So a mormon, a black guy, and a Jew walk into a bar and they tell the bartender they are all three running for president of the United States....

So why is the president making them run?

Super pacs

So Vandersloot has the money and can give to whatever he wants in whatever amount. We have the supremes to thank for the corporate buying of our elections. I don't like it but it's the law of the land. But it really becomes a travesty when a Vandersloot can buy our judiciary as he did in our recent Supreme Court races. If this keeps up, we will have Nowhere to turn for recourse. Be afraid...be very afraid.

Don't flail about. Obama has okayed SuperPacs too.
