TK Bar in Boise will close at current location, reopen in new one

Outlaw smoking and look what happens: The TK Bar in southeast Boise is planning to shut its doors soon.

Actually, that's not the reason. The property has been sold and owner Gene Carlson is moving the TK to another spot.

At least that's what I gathered during a brief phone interview.

"You caught me at a bad time," he admitted cordially as the dull roar of bargoers in conversation buzzed in the background. "I'm right in the middle of happy hour."

Oops. It was 5 p.m.

You may have noticed the TK at 3231 S. Federal Way. It looks like somebody’s house. Somebody who owns a chopper or two. It’s definitely one of those neighborhood institutions with plenty of dive-bar history and charm.

It won't be the TK's first move. Carlson took it from its original spot across from Bronco Stadium to its current location in 1982, he said.

The TK will reopen at the corner of Eisenman and Gowen roads — hopefully by March 1. (There's always a lot of red tape involved in these things.)

"We're just putting it all together," Carlson said.

Hey, wait a minute: Isn't that outside city limits? Will smoking be back at the TK?

TK

Gene Carlson does not own TK, he "manages" it.

Now he'll run it six feet under.
