Boise State hired Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake to coach defensive backs and be the Broncos' defensive passing game coordinator, the school announced on Twitter. He replaces Marcel Yates, who left for Texas A&M.
“Jimmy (Lake) brings a lot of experience and knowledge to our program,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said in a statement released by the school. “He is an awesome person and the players are going to love playing for him.”
Lake has been in the NFL since 2006 coaching with Tampa Bay (2006-07 and 2010-11) and Detroit (2008). He also worked at Montana State as the defensive backs coach when current Boise State defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski was the school's defensive coordinator.
Lake also coached at Washington and Eastern Washington, where he played strong safety and earned honorable mention All-Big Sky honors and was also an All-Big Sky Academic selection. Lake graduated in 2000 with a degree in business administration.
