The Snake River Alliance will host nationally-known anti-nuclear activist, Joanna Macy, for a series of events in Boise this week.
Macy is coming to Idaho to help build grass-roots solidarity to oppose the proposed Areva uranium enrichment factory that could be built in eastern Idaho, and to raise awareness about present and future nuclear waste issues in the state, said Liz Woodruff, Alliance executive director.
“Joanna has been an inspiration to anti-nuclear activists since her writing and advocacy during the nuclear-freeze movement in the 1980’s,” Woodruff said.
Macy will arrive in Boise and is scheduled on Boise Community Radio at 4 pm.The Alliance will host a public presentation with Joanna and local musicians Josh Bogle and Mary Beth Whitaker at the First Congregational Church in Boise Friday at 7 pm.
A workshop, “In League with the Future: Containing the Poison Fire,” will take place at the Basque Center in Boise Saturday and Sunday. Registration information is available at: www.snakeriveralliance.org.
