Don't call it the Garden City Music Festival.
However, the free Boise Music Festival, which lured an estimated 70,000 people to Ann Morrison Park in Boise each of the last two years, will be moved to Expo Idaho this summer.
This isn’t a huge surprise. Cash-challenged organizer Peak Broadcasting has made rumblings about revamping or downsizing the festival to make it more lucrative for the radio-station owner and event sponsors.
Relocating will provide multiple advantages, according to Kevin Godwin, Peak’s senior vice president. The most obvious advantage? The festival won’t have to be built from the ground up in the middle of a park.
Expo Idaho has on-site water, power, dressing rooms, parking, etc. Plus — and here’s a biggie — it’s a fenced, secure area. In other words, don’t expect to drag your own cooler full of beer and food into the festival anymore. The Boise Music Festival needs to make more money from concessions.
The main stage will be on the large grass area near Hawks Stadium where the carnival is placed during the Western Idaho Fair. Bands will perform throughout the Expo grounds.
“Overall, this change will help us concentrate our time and energy on what we think is most important,” Godwin said. “Finding and working with top talent and creating a fun experience for our community.”
This year’s Boise Music Festival will be held July 7. Past performers have included Joan Jett, Bret Michaels and the Backstreet Boys.

Fallout?
Speaking of fallout, you should see all the cigarette butts littering the downtown streets and sidewalks as smokers have seemingly forgotten how to courteously dispense with used butts after a quick outdoor smoke.
Good job!
The fairgrounds makes real sense. I hope they can do what so many others haven't been able to; Make a profitable festival for everyone. Don't really understand why a marginal entrance admission fee isn't considered to help offset the costs and lessen the burden on the vendors. Even if the numbers dropped to 50,000 with a $5.00 admission, a quarter mil could go a long way toward assuring the festival lands in the black.
