Idaho state employees contribute almost $300,000 to United Way

Gov. Butch Otter accepted a ceremonial check that was big in both size and amount Tuesday -- $297,678 pledged by state workers. Otter, in turn, presented the check to Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney, president of the board of United Way of Treasure Valley.

Since 1999, state employees have contributed almost $4.5 million to United Way through the annual Employee Charitable Giving Campaign. This year's co-chairs of the employee campaign were Mike Rush, executive director of the Idaho State Board of Education, and Janet Gallimore, executive director of the Idaho State Historical Society.

In a ceremony in his office, Otter noted that as one of nine children in a family headed by his electrician father, the family relied on charity. "There was hardly ever enough money to go around for everything, especially certain times of the year -- Thanksgiving, Christmas."

Said Raney: "Government can't be all things to all people, but we need to help people who need our help."

Raney said the money would be spent on United Way's three top priorities: education, financial independence and health. "This will make a big difference," he said.

This

Despite no pay increases, lay offs and furloughs...
Thank you State Employees
Well Done

What a bunch of over paid, government slugs.......

Oh, wait, ........

Applause

It's great that state employees are helping those in need; even when they themselves have been facing tough times. Most have received furloughs each year, no raises in past 5 years, large caseloads, and many of them qualify for assistance themselves. Special people that handle confidential, private, personal data, deserve an applause.Congrats!

Cheesey pre-recorded applause...

That's approx $13.63 per state employee.

The avg per employee in the private sector (of those companies that participate) is $28.39.

Oh, ask Eric Beck, chief IT Manager @ Idaho Dept. of Labor why he and his minions make 50% ~ 100% more than other state IT employees. It's because he and his team bilk our federal tax dollars.

Specifically, Eric and his team KNOWINGLY and openly contribute to our national debt while other IT (and other position) state employees are paid (much less because they must stay) within the budget of state-based tax dollars.

Actually, other Idaho Dept. of Labor & Dept. of Health & Welfare do this; and any other federal-tax dollar funded positions, but Eric's entourage is notorious at it.

Hmm:

Gotta help compensate for the $700,000+ (in addition to other perks) per year salary for the CEO.

Wonder how much the state helped the Salvation Army?

Just sayin'.
